General Air Conditioning Question-Non Toyota Related

I have an 07 T4R that i love however i also have a 2001 GMC Yukon. The Yukon a/c compressor has "blown up"shop wants 2k to replace all of the components (2 evaporators, condensor, dryer, and compressor) Has anyone ever had this happened and decided to just replace the compressor and have the entire system flushed? Any thoughts keeping in mind it's age?

Why they do this - is so that when they replace the bad component..and then the AC fails 2 months later you don't come back complaining. Many times it's cheaper in the long run to just replace all the components and continue.

With that said...most of the other components on a AC system don't wear out as quickly. The compressor is one of the only moving parts so it will wear out sooner. You could take the chance and just have the compressor replaced and hope for the best. But don't be surprised if something else fails later.
