Hi All,

Looking at a 2003 limited v8 with 160,000kms...i'm concerned about 2 things, it has ticking noise when cold (most likely crack manifold) and im concerned about the sulfur smell...I did some research but the threads had millions of posts so I just wanted to start fresh.

The posts I read were just people saying there's rotten egg smell during hard acceleration etc...How bad is it really (liveable or?) and is it all the time or does it have to do with the cracked/old manifolds. Or is the sulfur just from old cats.

I love these 4runners but I dont want me truck to smell like sulfur all the time lol. Also I test drove a 05 v6 and didnt notice anything.

Thanks for any insight!

Manifold crack is a newer common issue. Most chose to ignore it unless you need to fix it (state inspection).

Sulfur smell is not really an issue unless you drive with the rear window down.

You'll only notice the smell when you push hard on the gas while the back window is down, other than that it's not really a problem. Many people "fix" this by turning the exhaust out to the side. I'm sure you can do a search on exhaust tips and find something you'll like.

I read about that mod...is there a way to eliminate it or can you only mask?
