George Washington National Park

This is a regional question for anyone who has been to GWNP with their truck. Does this place have decent trails for my truck that is completely stock? I am not interested in tough trails or anything like that but I would like to ride up to Elliott Knob and/or Reddish Knob this coming long weekend.

I do not want to do any damage to my truck.

Any info would be great.

Sorry I don't personally know anything about GWNF.......you might want to try a topo map of Virginia. They will, most times, show Forest Service roads and have them classified based on their state of driveability.

hi Ryan,

I just went to GWNP last weekend and they do have a good trail for beginner. I took the Peter Mill Run trail and the whole trail about 6.5 miles. I would say there is only one part is little rough but you will be fine with a stock runner. Here is the trail map, hope this help.

This brochure is for ATV and OHV vehicles. Is it legal to drive an SUV on that trail or are they what are considered OHV's?

I'm gonna hit that trail as soon as I get my cornfed and Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor on! Is it right off of I-495?

That's what they consider SUV(off highway vehicle), here is more details.

You will also need to get a premit($5 for one day, $30/season).

Here is the direction I took:

Go ahead to google "60 Stoney Creek Road, Edinburg, VA 22824(Shell Station)". You can get the premit here and fill up your tank. Keep going on Stoney Creek Blvd. and make a left on stop sign to Rt.11, then you will see the Jeep dealership on your right. Make a right on that dealership(I believe is Fort Rd.) then you will go up the hill and see the sign "ATV/OHV trails". Peter Mill Run trail is the dirt road across the street of that sign. You will see the trail map once you drive in the trail. After you pass that sign, the fun part start.....that will be the roughest section of that trail. There will be a deep incline with lose rocks, but once you pass that.......it will be dirt road til the end.

I've been there and yes from the trails I ran it is great for a stock 4R. Click the pic below for my write-up/pics and the trail names we ran. No locker or lift needed for those trails mentioned.

The Harrisonburg, VA area of GWNF is great for a stocker or beginner, boring for a built truck.
The trails that used to be somewhat challenging are now blocked off.

Never been to the other areas of the GWNF or the TJNF.
