getting clutch replaced

I am asking this question kinda late because I already took my 4runner to the shop on Monday but I just wanted some feedback. I have a 96 4runner with the 3.4l engine, 4x4, 207,000 miles, 5 speed tranny. I was having problems with shifting gears and the clutch would not come back all the way. I had the slave cylinder replaced last June 2010. That fixed it for a little while and then my clutch started doing the same thing. Well I put it in the shop and they tell me I need my clutch replaced. From what they are telling me when they are done with it, it will pretty much be a new clutch. They are charging me 1100.00 to fix it and they are a reputable shop that has been around a long time. I am just wondering if those charges are about right?

labor is what get you if the shop charges say 90 a hr and it might be a days job

thats outrageous! i had the clutch replaced in my truck for $250 like 5 years ago(yes i supplyed the clutch because i wanted a centerforce dual force). that job is pretty easy to do for anyone with some mechanical inclination and some tools. the last clutch i did in a 3.4 took me like 3 hours, and that was with out a lift of tranny jack, just a floor jack and a creeper and another guy. a shop that has a lift and tranny jack should be able to get that out and in in under 2hrs and even at $150/hr thats only $300 plus say $300-400 for a high end clutch thats only $6-700 they are raping you

How many miles on it? If they charge you that much, you may want to get the clutch master cylinder rebuild first, it’s cheaper.

Ugh! I knew I would be getting answers like this but I just needed to know. I was at my wits end. I thought it would be a job I couldn't do so I didn't want to start something I couldn't finish. When I go fishing on weekends my wife drives it since I need my Tundra to pull my boat so I wanted to get it fixed right. I am getting that not so well feeling in my stomach. I pick it up tomorrow. I plan on keeping my 4runner for awhile so that's why I decided to go ahead and pay that kind of money. I also didn't have the time to try to do it myself and let it sit in the driveway if I were to get stuck and couldn't fix it. Thanks for the feedback.
