Getting Fortera Silent Armor next week...

...and was wanting to get some feedback. Tire Rack has a lot of reviews but I was wondering whether any 4Runner owners have put them on.

It's about time to do it since the Michelins have 60,000 miles on them. I could probably get another 10,000 but I'm getting a buy 3 get one free deal which is good only for next week.

I know a lot of people on this forum love the REVOs or Nittos, but I haven't been able to find much on the Goodyears.

In any event, I'll report on them once they're installed.

I'm defenately interested in your expeirances with these.
If I remember they are branded with the snowflake on the mountain symbol right?
I seem to also remember the review's mentioning how heavy they are and that a lot mentioned slight loss of gass mialage/ range per tank.

I'm going to stick with my beloved bfg's for the 4runner but these may be an option at some point in time.

No, I think the snowflake symbol is branded onto the Triple Tread. I live in Florida so I obviously don't have the need for that kind of tire.

Believe it or not, I actually have a dealership near me that is very cool, easy to deal with, and trustworthy (and this comes from somebody who is very very cynical and suspicious when it comes to things). Anyway, the parts guy had good things to say about the silent armors, so we'll see.

Also, they ride lighter than the extar weight they carry. I think they weigh 10-15 lbs. more in total than the stock dunlops.

I looked at those as well. For me the decision came down to those and the Bridgestone Alenza. Overall, they're rated about the same on tirerack. I ended up with the Alenza only because I got the same 4th tire free deal you're taking...

10-15 lbs? good lord, thats a huge difference. I wouldnt dare put a tire on my truck that weighs that much difference per tire.

I just searched and depending on size, the good years are anywhere between 4-7lbs per tire.

Yeah, 10-15 was just a complete guess. All I remembered is they were sgnificantly heavier.

I finally upgraded to the Fortera in 2005 on my 2000 Tacoma and I am absolutely in love with them. The ride compared with the OEM tires are so quiet and smooth that I wish I had these a long time ago.

I highly recommend the Fortera's and I would get them in a heartbeat if they offered the size to fit my 06 4R Limited.

If they are anything like the Wrangler Silent Armor, put them on. I upgraded to the 265/70r17 a few weeks ago, they ride great and they look good, the only draw back is they are a little heavy (.5 mpg hit).

OK, I finally got em installed and while I've only driven on them today (about 60 miles or so), I can give an early report.

First and foremost, these things are just super quiet, even quieter than the Cross Terrains. No noise at all and very very smooth.

They also give a softer ride. Road imperfections are somewhat smoothed out, it almost feels like the truck is driving on air.

No experience yet with rain but I'm sure I'll report on that when it actually does rain here. We're in the middle of our dry season so it may be a while.

And - they look fantastic. Very manly looking, very aggressive yet very quiet. A few of the techs at the dealership loved the way they looked. Even the guy who took it out for a test drive to make sure all were balanced correctly (they were) commented to me how great they looked and soft and quiet they were compared to the other 4Runners he's driven.

One possible negative - they took an awful lot of weight to balance. I've read about this on other forums and in some posts here and found that to be accurate. The Cross Terrains took practically no weight. These Forteras required a lot.

All in all, so far so good. Plus, it was buy 3 get one free, so I couldn't pass it up.

I got the deal from Keith Pierson Toyota in Orange Park, FL. The parts manager was great. I had gone there just to get a quote on tires and he told me to wait a week, that they had the deal coming up and he'd call me when it started. Sure enough, he did.

I put on 265/70/17 and got the SA for $175 per tire, $603 out the door with mounting, balancing, etc. Not too bad IMO.

Tirerack says the Fortera SA 265/70/17 is 36 lbs. Same as the stock Dunlop.
