This question is more about the recovery gear I should carry rather than the warm clothes and consumables.
I have a Warn Hitch Shackle, extra 3/4" Warn shackle, 3" x 20' Keeper Recovery Strap (11,000 lb), and some new 25 foot jumper cables on order. This will compliment the tow strap I already have and make me winter weather recovery ready (I think). I've never had to pull anyone out of the ditch with my F250 since we don't drive it much. But I saw plenty of people in the ditch when driving our primary vehicle, an Audi A6, which we traded off for the T4R.
So, this year I'm hoping to be able to help out anyone unfortunate enough to find their way into a ditch (or have what is needed to get us out) with our 4Runner since it will be our primary vehicle. The recovery strap I chose is rated for vehicles up to 11,000 lbs with a 22,500 lbs break strength. Is that enough? Too much? Amazon has it for $37, and the 4" x 30' (20,000/40,000) by Keeper is $83.
I've done a lot of reading on the subject but I just can't decide how much is too much and how much is just right.
Another thing, I haven't gotten under the front of the T4R to look for a good location to tow from. Again, I've done some searching but was hoping that maybe someone here knows first hand that there is at least one good spot that I can thread shackles through?
Any help or suggestions appreciated!
