Getting ready to buy an 05.

This is my first post here and I just wanted to thank everyone as the information on this site has helped me in deciding on my purchase. I currently own a 2001 Cobra Mustang, 2000 Saleen Speedster, and a 2005 Honda Civic. I am preparing to sell my Cobra to make room for my new 4Runner.

I have owned a 2000 4Runner sport, and 2 Tacoma's in the past. We really missed our 4Runner and I have decided to get another one because the wife and I loved it so much.

I went to the dealer tonight with my wife to drive the sport in a V6 and a V8. My initial thought going in was to get a V6 as it is more affordable and in all honesty I won't be spending any time at the dragstrip with my new 4Runner (LOL!).

We first took the V6 for a spin and I was quite content with the power and torque for an SUV. We then took the V8 out for a comparison and I gotta say, I'm HOOKED! :D I never imagined the V8 would have the low end torque and quick acceleration it did. My wife has already told me to get the V8 as I would regret it if I didn't.

I'd also like to say how impressed I am overall with this model. It is way more advanced than the 2000 model I owned. The JBL sound system sounds fantastic for a factory system. The overall ride quality is reasonable for a truck based SUV. The interior and controls are really up beat and modern as well. Both sport models I drove also seem to do wonderful around corners as well. The body roll was at a minimum and I didn't expect such fine performance from an SUV in that area. I knew I liked the 05 4Runner and after the test drive tonight I am 10 times more confident in making the purchase.

Initial plans for the truck will be to slightly upgrade the stereo system, a set of 20inch wheels, and possibly a custom interior to my liking. I'm looking into a leather/suede combination similar to what I have in my Cobra for the seats. That's the biggest thing I will miss in that car. I'm also a huge gearhead and superchargers are my weakness. Both of mustangs are supercharged and it's hard for me to live without one, even for daily driving.

I'm aware (Through reading this forum) that the TRD superchargers are on hold at this point. If they become available I may purchase one to tinker around with. I understand they are the Eaton M90 design which is exactly what I have on the Saleen.

I apologize for the long post and I hope to assist with additional information once I get my 4Runner. Thanks to everyone here for providing information pertaining to these wonderful SUV's!

dubs and ride quality

If you haven't already, you might want to ask around about the effect of dubs on ride quality. The combination of bigger wheels and smaller rubber typically increases unsprung weight, and that can affect the ride. It can also cause you some grief if you encounter potholes or curbs with such a heavy vehicle.

Of course you're already familiar with performance cars and their rubber/wheel combos, so it's mostly an issue if you are considering doing things you wouldn't normally do with sports cars.

For all the mods in any case, let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the advice on that. I'm aware of the decrease in ride quality when plus sizing wheel/tire combos. As you guessed I've done it several times before. We always have to give something to get something in return. My thought is that a setup on 20's will not effect the ride quality to the point of being unbearable for me. I'm going to give it a shot and will make a final decision after testing it out. I'll make sure to update you here on the forum as things progress with me.;):

20's are the highest i would go. i think you'll be fine.....just don't get low profile tires because the space in the wheel wells will make it look funny. get tires that will fill em in nicely...i forgot what size.

Yeah, but if he goes with 20 inch rims and doesn't get low profile tires, he'll end up with a much larger than stock diameter of his wheel/tire combination.

And we all know that's not good for much.

* Messes up the speedometer/odometer

* Won't be able to use the factory spare (messes up the trac. con.)

* Changes the overall gear ration (slower acceleration, but a higher top speed)

Thats the procharger for the V8, several Tundra guys have it, it says right at the top of the page, The Most Power and Best Performance for the I-Force V-8!

I'm not at all interested in a centrifugal setup on my 4Runner. It will not give me the best performance for regular street use or towing compared to a twin screw or roots setup. ProCharger is also notorious for leaking seals. It is however a nice addition for someone looking to spend a little time at the track.;):
