ghetto deck plate mod

i did the deck plate mod wen i was installin the hella supertone horns, all i did was took out the air box, i did the elbow removal like half a year ago, ok, so i took out the air box, and took my roto zip, and cut a ghetto ass square hole on the air box, the was facing the headlight, even tho i drive a 2.7l 96 base runner, i havent had the time to do this untill last week, so now its alot more responsive, i also reground the cables i changed out, started a lil better wen i sand the paint to bare metal. i just want to know if the shape and size of the hole matters on my ghetto mod?

well... as far as the ghetto mod on the airbox... i did the same thing - but with a drywall saw. =]

i cut about a 5 inch square hole top left on mine (as you're looking at it from the front of the truck). sounds throatier... feels somewhat more responsive... just glad i didn't spend tons of money on any of the kits.

i don't go mudding or anything like that, just highway and residential areas, and after ~ 5k miles of having this mod, i don't really get any water in the box from rain or puddles.

yeah haha that sounds like a good idea for a cheap mod, but also what you can do, like how i did before the deckplate mod, is leave the flap open at the top of the airbox and you get a little more pull and a little throatier sound

Better yet..... why wouldn't you just state the fact with a statement such as: "Here is my idea or mod idea, etc...etc."

With all of the religious/racial tensions going on in this world, I believe one could've use a better, less provocative choice of wording. The above should be a standard from any citizen of the most diverse nation (USA) in the world.

i really don't think he meant to be offensive at all when saying it was a "ghetto" mod, and although there could have been a better choice for words, if someone had taken that offensively, in my opinion that is just being a little too sensitive

The term ghetto mod seems to be pretty common on automotive forums. I don't think most people think of it as being offensive.

Also, there's people offended by the term "Hillbilly."

from what i've observed... yea. bigger hole is throatier.

if you do the isr mod as well it will get louder too.

just search for isr on yotatech for pics and write-up.

guys, remember i only did this to my 2.7l base, keep in mind that its not a v6, also i did remove one of the silencer box, and did notice that i can hear the intake a lil more after i cut the big ass hole in the air box

Your title is deceiving... how can you call it any kind of deckplate mod if you didn't use a deckplate in the mod at all? Airbox mod would be better suited for you.

By the way... this will kill your filter in a hurry in you do any driving in dusty dirt roads. Yet another benefit of actually installing a deckplate when you do the deckplate mod.

The definite plus of the deckplate is the ability to close it back up which is nice for the off road crowd when encountering mud or water but on the street I always just leave it open. I did install some screen door material on the back of the hole to keep larger debris from getting into the airbox itself.

I agree, Are there any major gains from this or should I just keep my aircleaner box closed?
