Ghost in the radio

I have a "new" 2007 4Runner Limited. On random occasions, maybe once a week, the radio turns on by itself. I cannot detect a pattern. My dealer thought I was hitting the switch in the steering wheel, which is not the case.

Anyone else have this?

Don't have it, but had something similar with a home stereo years ago. It was a bad circuit board in the unit.

If it keeps happening, see if you can find any consistency to what triggers the problem. If you can, then you should be able to reproduce the problem for the dealer.

You should try to find out if it DOES have any sort of pattern. The stereo in my room used to turn on every night at midnight, even though it didn't have the capability to set a time for it to turn on.

You don't say where you are located or the type radio (std or JBL) BUT the amps in the early (2003 to maybe 2004) JBL stereos had a peoblem when it got cold outside. Radio would loose all volume until key was totally turned off and back on. They had no problem in warm weather. I missed replacement by not complaining but others got a revised amp. There was a TSB on the problem -- is your the JBL unit? I'd be sure to have it written up - if dealer doesn't fix it now -- you'd have backup for a claim even after warrranty. IMHO they should swap out yours for a new one.

My radio is NEVER off, so I don't know if that would ever happen with mine.
