Gibson exhaust catback drone issue-Solved

I was beating myself to dealt with the droning exhaust for couple weeks, it was so bad around 1900-2200 RPM (highway constant speed). Went to the muffler shop nearby to see anything they can do to help. The guys told me a resonated exhaust tip may help. So I ordered this: DC Sport EX-1014 Stainless Steel Resonated Slant Cut Bolt-on Exhaust Tip. Just bolted on couple days ago and right on the money, the drone is completely gone and it looks a lots better than the Gibson tip. However, it's a little quieter and it also alters the sound a bit to the good side. I really like it now.

Note: I forgot to add the most importance part of this fix that I've to cut 4" off the tailpipe to prevent it from blocking the resonance inside the new tip.

Very interesting. I too find the Gibson drones on the highway, but only when it downshifts into 4th. But since I am running 34" tires, I downshift a lot (Stock gearing) so your thread caught my eye.

This "DC sports" exhaust tip is real cheap on amazon. Something about the description seems cheesy to me - "increases horsepower"

Are you sure this improves the gibson highway drone situation? Do you still get the sporty gibson noise in lower gears and on startup?

I'm taking Beeline to work every days w/ average speed between 65-75 mph that where the droning really annoying me. I was about to remove the Gibson and put the OEM back.

This all BS, I got it from ebay for $22.5 shipped. it's mostly for look but in this case it serves another purpose.

Man, without the tip I will get rid of the Gibson. Yes, you still have the "sporty" sounds at low speed and at start-up less the pap...pap...pap sounds :dancin: at around 25-30 mph.
Remember, I have a stock V8 under the hood. I forgot to look at your sig to see what u have.

OK, you convinced me. For $24, I'll give it a shot. I'll report back with my impressions (hopefully they are the same as yours). I have the V6.

Don't forget to cut few inches of the tailpipe, I cut off 4".

Ok I put the DC sports resonated tip on and notice zero change. Still the same drone when car downshifts on highway. I'm not sure if mine being a v6 is why I don't have the same review as you.

Sorry it doesn't work out for you. As a reminder: Did you cut part of the tail pipe?

I did not. Not sure why shortening the tail pipe would reduce the noise?

The internal diameter of the resonator portion is smaller than the tail pipe, so it is not possible for the tail pipe to pass through resonator portion.

No! it not. Tail pipe will slide through resonator tip w/out any problems. Look at the pic I posted above.
