Gibson exhaust vs stock or other?

My 04 V8 exhaust has a couple of holes and time to replace original exhaust from cat back. JC Whitney has the Gibson 618707 stainless cat back for only 334.58 (10% expires today!) That seems to be the best deal. I called Toyota and they want 676.00 to replace with original exhaust. Although there is something to say about an original exhaust that lasts ten years, the Gibson is half the price. Does anyone want to chime in here before I pull the trigger today on the Gibson????? I dont 4wheel with it. I have read many exhausts threads here so I know Borla is the favored, I just dont want to spend that much. I am particularily interested in those that have the Gibson and how they like it, how long have they had it and if the stainless will hold up?

I've had it for a couple years now and I love it. It's got a nice tone and the drone is bearable. It's obviously not as quiet as the stock exhaust but if you like a nice throaty exhaust tone, you'll like this one. It's also quiet at idle. The loudest it gets inside the cabin is at about 1800 RPM right before the trans shifts under normal conditions and it's really not too bad.

Haha but seriously, I've heard that Burtman Industries is almost non-existent. I heard his customer service has gone to crap and people end up waiting months for a product. Also, that he won't respond to phone calls or e-mails. A search on the forum will show a lot of this.

I'd like to add, however, that I purchased my exhaust through him. I had no issues, but this was over 2 years ago. I ended up getting it a week or two later than anticipated, but he answered the phone when I called and called Gibson to find out the status of the exhaust while I was on the phone with him. Take what you want from that info and do a search and read through all of the other threads about Burtman Industries.

I saw that alreay. The 280 is for the anodized one and not the 618707 part. They want 390.00 for the stainless one which is what I want. JC Whitney coupon expires today so I am very tempted to get the stainless today for 334.58. from them with free shipping. Did you guys get the stainless and again how did it hold up?

That is really too bad! I had a whole list of mods lined up from that website. Good deals and some hard to find items. Bummer

I have stainless and the muffler is holding up just fine, even through all of the salt. The pipes have surface rust though.

IMO, I would do a muffler swap and have the reso removed and the pipe routed out behind the rear tire.

The Gibson cat-back piping is the same size as the stock pipe, no gain there.

It will save you a few bucks and give you the same result, just find one you like.

I have the Magnaflow, but also bought a Flowmaster that I'm going to switch to and see how that works out.

I love my Gibson personally. It is mean sounding, but not obnoxious in the vehicle. It will definitely pep your vehicle up, and it is very solid.

This would work as long as the holes in the exhaust are only limited to the muffler; which from the first post, didn't sound like the case.

Thanks for the replies. I found a great price for the Gibson 618707 for only 318.34 from MVP Autoparts with free shipping! I think I want to replace the whole system and not just the muffler. I just want it to last and not rust out so I won't have to do it all again in four or five years. The stock exhaust lasted ten years but is twice the price. I am thinking if the Gibson is just as good and will last as long as the stock then I am better off. I plan on keeping the truck for as long as I can. NJ and tman- how long have you had your Gibson on?

My magnaflow was done installed for half that price. Buy a round muffler and a tip for around 100 total and labor should be around 100 to weld it on. Done.

But that doesn't replace all the piping that may or may not be broke/leaking/or about to break...

The exhaust was put in by previous owner. Not sure how long it's been there, but I know 2 years for sure. It still looks new though, no rattles, and everything looks very solid. I'm thinking will last a very long time.
