Glare strip or No glare strip

Hey guys So im trying to decide if i want the little $20 glare stip on the front windshield or not. I dont want it to look ricey.

I couldnt find anything paticular on this and the only runner that i have seen with one is clemsons. Anyone else have one? if so please post pics!!

Do you think i can use one?

One more question
Do these things actaully make it look darker from the front/side windows? here in Utah we can only tint 50% on the front windows.. Freaking cops scared of all us mormons havin dark windows and such! what the hell?

Hmmmmm. I think it might look kinda cool. Especially with the overall theme you got going on there.

Rig looks awesome by the way.
 
If it's legal go for it, the summer sun is a 8itch, the added visor could only help and it would look good on your truck.
 
I actualy have an appointment to get this done on mine Saturday at 10AM. :party:Once I get it done I will post a picture in this thread and let you have your own opinion.
I'm meeting up with Clemson tomorrow and I'm sure we will get a few typical parking lot shots. Maybe you could get a better idea from one of those.

EDIT: Doing the sun strip might make it look darker but when they use the gun to see how much light is going through the front windows it will still read 50% or whatever yours is.

Mine has the strip. I bought it with the front 2 window tinted the same tint. The front 2 failed inspection but the windshield one passed and is still on there. I didn't like it at first without the front door windows tinted but I think I like it now. It'll definitely look pretty good on your already blacked-out t4r.

Here in SC the sun strips are 5% tint. No wonder the front windows failed inspection. :happens: You could get your front windows redone to like a 27%(darkest legal here). If you do that I think it will make your rig look 10 times better. I think tint helps any vehicle.
 
thanks guys for the comments guys as well as the advise. I cant remember exactly what it looks like on a 4runner and im mostly trying to get the sides to look a little darker but still stay legal.

I will post a before and after pic so you can see if the sun strip makes the doors look darker.
As far as staying legal...As long as you have legal tint on the windows they will stay legal, regardless how much darker it looks than before. Does that make sense?

Carolinafan that would be great! I understand what your talking about too. I really just wish I could get the windows done darker. It would be awesome if the strip can at least make it apear darker.
 
I'd say go for it since it's only $20. You should also be able to tell them how tall you want it. I think the law is to the AS1 line, but I don't think all windshields have that line. I know my replacement windshield did not have a line.
 
yea the AS1 line is the legal limit for how low you can go, anything above that line can be painted black if you want. That goes for all states. I have one on my windshield ill take a picture tomorrow.
 
this is the best one i could find from almost 7 years ago. All the newer pictures dont show the banner because of my overall tint on the windshield. i dont think they look ricey at all

My friend has his whole front tinted with a super light shade of tint. You really can't see it at all, but he says the difference on hot days is night and day.

Windshield tint is awesome. I have 45% on mine. It's such a big difference riding in any other vehicle. I feel like I'm getting blasted by the sun if I'm not in my 4Runner.
 
i had one on mine till my fist hit the window one day... -long story, and no i dont have anger management issues, people just need to stop pissing me off!, anyhow i liked the function of it, but hated the look from the outside, like you said it made it look to ricey or beanerised... and at night (especially in the city) i could never read any street signs ect.
 
FWIW, I was going to get one of those for my 4Runner too, to make it look darker looking in from the outside, but I'm just worried that it would get annoying after a while. Even without the strip I kinda have to lean forward to see traffic lights, and I'm only 5'10''ish...or maybe I just have the back of my seat too upright...idk. But anyway, I don't think that they look ricey at all, especially on a truck like yours.
 
I got one. I really like it.

I need a new windshield soon though. I think I'm going to tint the whole windshield 50% and then do a 20% strip on top.
