Glove box shock broken

Hi All,

Does anyone know if the glove box shock located on the right side of the GC is covered under warranty? This shock keeps your GC from dropping fast and hard. Now that it is broken, my GC feels so heavy. Im afraid it will drop right off.

Any thoughts??

Does the shock connect to something? I am trying to troubleshoot my glove box. it is stuck in the closed position. I cannot open it. It is unlocked but wont open. the handle has no resistance like a spring is missing or a cable is loose.

Yes it is covered. My extended warranty even covered it. I just had it replaced yesterday...even if you can't get it covered the part was only $22

That's good to know. Do they break easily? I rarely use my glove box

The shock in my Camry appeared to be the same as the 4Runner. If it is not a warranty item I'd go to a junk yard (sorry automotive recycler) to lift one off nearly any of the Toyotas.

My shock got disconnected. I'm not sure what it's supposed to connect to. There some holes and metal brackets, but I can't tell what's missing. Can anyone show an image of what it connects to?

I've changed out my incabin air filter a bunch of times and often disconnect that little shock. There are two holes, and one of them pops back into a plastic nub. I don't remember which, but I doubt the part is broken. Compress it and see if it's operational. If so, reconnect the hinge before closing. It may take a little finesse trying to get the tab on the left side of the box to get into position, but it shouldn't be a major issue. Report back with your findings

My Shock is disconnected also. When reinstalling do you need to connect the shock to the car then connect the shock to the glove box?

snap it to the dash first, then pull the arm down with a screw driver, attach the end , then replace screw.
