Gobi Ladder Installation: Quick Question

Gobi is closed and I was hoping to install the ladder tonight but I want to verify something with the top mounting plate because the instructions are not clear and I am having a hard time getting it into the body gap without doing paint damage. Is the curved part of the bracket supposed to be uniform or does it taper/angle change on one end? I thought the change would be to help get it installed but after a few minutes of fiddling I figured I would ask here to make sure my bracket didn't get bent (unlikely with how it was packed but just want to verify)

To clarify, the taper is clearly supposed to be there from other installation pictures however I am unable to tell if the bend is supposed to be uniform, mine is not which may be not clear with my Antman style photos.

Edit: The 3rd photo shows best what I am talking about

It is supposed to be different, it allows for clearance of the liftgate hinge. When I walked out to look I couldn't see if it's exactly the same as yours but it's definitely different on that edge.

Edit: ok if I understand your edit, I went back out and yes the edge is consistent across on mine as best I can tell.

Thanks, I added a 3rd photo to help clarify but It may be possible I got a bent bracket. The powder coat is in fine shape so it likely happened before that and not during shipping. I am not rushed so I will just wait till tomorrow and call Gobi and see what they say.

Yeah maybe someone that put one on recently can chime in but based on what I see on mine it looks bent as my edge looks the same across. I vaguely remember when I tested it before install it would move and was hard to tell how it would line up, but following instructions it took me like 20 mins to install.

And yes those first pics were totally antman quality!

Thanks, I will follow up tomorrow with Gobi's Reply. Even if its bent the rack it self is top notch. I was little hesitant about the cost compared to what else is on the market I am not dissapointed.

Given current pricing and lead times I think you made a great decision, it's a quality product. The ladder is great to have as well, I don't use it a lot but when I do I say to myself it was worth it every time.

Thanks, I certainly can bend it back and be good to go. If the powder coat cracks just rattle can it but if they are willing to ship me a new bracket I will likely just wait.

Gobi's sales support leaves a little something to be desired. I tried for 3 days straight to get a reply back about ordering their Hi-Lift jack mounts for my stealth rack. Not a single returned phone call from Sandra @ Gobi.

I finally had to order from Dirty Parts just so I could at least get some kind of an order in. That said I'm very happy with my Gobi rack.

I didn't give them much of a chance but after calling and e-mailing yesterday I decided it wasn't worth the time and just bent the bracket back into shape. While Gobi has not confirmed this was the problem, once I did that I was able to install it into the body gap and the ladder installation went smoothly.

Microfiber towel and 2 min with channel locks and it was good to go.......took me longer to call/write Gobi then to just fix it........lesson learned.

Slick design to mount and not do permanent modifications to the body.

Glad you got it sorted out!

Glad you got it sorted. I'm hoping dirty parts gets my bracket in soon. Because I hate when I literally have to hound a company like gobi to take my money. It just shouldn't be that way.

Agreed that it shouldn't be that way (in my case I gave them ~24hrs so I won't complain much but I have heard of people having issues). I do understand that as a small business extra staff can eat up profits especially if they are customer support roles vs fabricators etc. That said I have heard/had nothing but wonderful responses and response times from small companies like RCI (Josh is who I have always dealt with). I don't know how many orders a company like Gobi Deals with vs. RCI so its really hard to compare and really no different then Shrockworks lead times. Most agree they are to long and yet there is no shortage of people in line for a great product. I am just glad to get to deal with companies like those mentioned above vs. calling customer support and having it be someone who has never seen the product you are talking about and are working solely off computer screens.

Again, totally agreed. When I'm having to call back 9 times over 3 days, and their sales rep can't return my messages, or 2-3 emails, and take my money and turn it into product. That baffles my mind sometimes.

CS was a big deciding factor for my hidden winch mount. I was originally going to go with Undercover HWMS for my gear, but they were sort of prickly and hard to get a response out of, whereas Pelfrey is just awesome. Same with Demello.

Plus both companies were awesome to deal with and walk me through what I needed, didn't need, etc.
