How does it install? Do you have to drill any holes?
Interesting... others have reported some wind noise without a fairing and reduced noise with a full fairing. Could it be how you mounted it? I know the Whitson rack can be mounted plus minus 6" back to front. Do you have yours all the way to the back or front? Or somewhere in between? You never know if that 1 or 2 inches forward or back did the trick. Do you have the sun roof insert? I actually opted for all round tubing on mine, it sacrifices a little bit of strength (just a little bit compared to the square flooring crossbars), but I figured its more aerodynamic. Got any pics?

no drilling, it just goes on your rails like the crossbars and roof supports.

Gobi Stealth wind noise.
Just Installed my Stealth last week, and wind fairing is in place. Been a little windier than normal here these last few days, but it seems as tho the rack is making a bit of noise from the wind, but easily compensated for by turning the music up a bit.

Does anyone make anything similar to the Gobi? But without the ability to mount it directly to the roof so it's not infringing on their patent?
Unless someone wants to sell one of those wmw racks.....

You can check out bajaracks. I almost went with them but ended up going gobi.
Its a little windy but not to bad.
like every custom building shop there will be a wait and even delays. They were like 2 weeks late with mine but when I complained they got it to me before my trip.
Be aware all these steel racks are very heavy and its huge difference when driving around. I dont like the feeling of tipping the racked added but I like the extra storage.

I had a rack made by a local fabricator last week. Gave him my design on Tuesday, and it was off to the powdercoater Friday morning, on my truck Yesterday. Exactly 1 week from concept to creation. I doubt it weighs 50lbs. I can take it off by myself without much effort.

Yeah, I'm all about fabricated. And glad to see you went powder, so tired of reading the BS how so and so painted their rack with a rattle can and 20 years later it still looks like new. Now let's see it!

I have a WMW one and it didn't add a tippy feeling at all. I noticed I felt the wind a little more when going over large river bridges, but nothing that made me feel unsafe at all.
If I had to guess I'd say the WMW with full mesh floor is 80-100 lbs.
I get everything powdercoated. So much more durable, looks better, and I don't have to mess around with spray cans. Worth the slight extra cost to me.

A friend of mine has a Baja long rack and really likes it, says its not too noisy. The only thing Gobi I have experience with is a ladder to reach my Con-Ferr rack on the 80 LC. Good quality on that as well.
