GOBI Racks Group buy! (3rd, 4th, 5th gens welcome)

mine showed up on Wednesday (Order confirmed on 10/30). Exactly 18wks. Backpack was backordered as well as the removable sun-roof panel bolts. Rack looks great though. Well worth the wait.

I am trying to decide if I should use the 3M protective strip under the wind deflector or not. Is it necessary now that the deflector uses a rubber strip against the roof?

yes use the strip. The deflector always had the rubber strip. a lot of people complained that sand and dust could get caught between the rubber strip and the roof and scratch the roof. that's why Gobi is now supplying every order with the 3M strip.

Mine arrived Thursday and went on Saturday/Sunday (had to wait for buddy help to lift the actual rack onto the roof)

Gotta say, the parts and instructions were really well done. No complaints on any of the components or packaging.

I called and finally got confirmation that it's shipping out next Thursday! I actually went ahead and going to have them do the install on march 24th.

Freight company called today, mine's arriving tomorrow. I got charged over the weekend so hopefully I'll have some time to do the install over the next couple weeks. Let's see some pics from those who got them installed!

Got mine Friday, about 2-3 days after CC charged. I didnt expect it so now it is stuck at work as it is 103" long.

Renting a Home Depot flatbed tomorrow to bring it to my shop for install end of the month.

My CC was charged and then a day or two later I got an email from Gobi. Mine just arrived a few minutes ago. They do a really solid job on the packaging.

When you had Gobi do the install, do you know if they added silicone to the mounting bolts? I know people have applied silicone to those areas to prevent moisture/water going inside the roof.

Just a note if you have Gobi do the install ... found a couple bolts that weren't hand-tight. Still quite happy (relatively minor gripe), but nothing like doing it yourself I guess.

I didn't watch the install or request silicone. I don't believe they add as part of install. Looking at it, not sure necessary w/ how rack is installed ... and yes, I've read a number of posts where folks are adding it to other racks. Good question for them though.

*I'm just going to watch the integrity of rubber separating pads/making sure everything is tight. We shall see ...

There's a bunch of threads on here about using butyl rubber instead of silicone since it doesn't dry and shrink away from what you put it on.

I received my rack and it is all installed and working great. I ordered the ARB AWNING BRACKETS Triple Support Kit as my accessory and have decided not to do an awning. Anyone interested in a trade for a different accessory? Looking for the axe/shovel mounts, HI-LIFT mounts or the sun roof opening panel.

Is there no way this will fit in the 4Runner if it’s un packed from the skid and cardboard ? Mine has arrived and I was contemplating how to get this from the shipping Center home.

So far my thoughts were explore that option or rent a Home Depot trailer like you suggested.

I did that... it was $29 for the box truck and I used 2 straps to to tie it to the wall. After taxes and fees it was like $31.xx because I returned within 75min. After 75min it's $5/15min or $20/hr.

Quick and easy.
