Gobi Racks Group Buy Feeler!

When I was at Gobi the other week I had a chance to ask them about a group buy for the forums and they were down. If you think you'd be interested leave a note and I'm going to send them a ballpark estimate, and they'll give me offers that I'll post up on the official group buy.

Not to bring up the ol' Gobi drama, especially as I had one on my previous 4Runner and as I'm a big supporter of their product and quality (and not their customer service or business practices), but last time there was a group buy, I believe a lot of buyers' had racks taking up to a year to get received and some received after people placing normal orders.

Just going based on memory here though, so maybe I just misread.

why do people buy gobi over other roof racks? Don't they have that crossbar that's welded in vs a straight basket rack like Baja or ARB? Kind of blocks the use of long objects since that cross bar gets in the way

I'm not familiar with that but will definitely confirm lead times because that's obviously a big factor.

They were "confirmed" in the past group buys also.

There are 0 consequences for blowing past their estimated times. Especially because they still charge you $500 if you cancel your order, even if it's not made yet and there's another person in line that would have bought it anyways.

Because it's honestly the most aesthetically pleasing roof rack available for 4Runners. It sucks they've cease and desisted other companies for similar designs, but there really is no better looking rack available (of course this is subjective but I think most would agree). But I totally don't blame people for avoiding them for their lead times and/or their business practices.

Their cross bars are removable.

Group Buy

I participated in the last Gobi Group Buy back in December 2018. I thought it was a great deal compared to other racks on the market and also received my rack quicker than expected opposed to all the horror stories you hear on the internetz. Gobi did communicate well with emails from order confirmation, invoicing and a generic "Your rack is in queue and expect delivery this month". These racks are custom built and not on the shelf inventory so don't expect Gobi to ship within a week. If you're an instant gratification magic pill type then move along nothing to see here.

On the flip side Gobi chooses to $#!T on some people like myself. No Communication, no returned calls, no product after months of waiting. I hope it works out for all those brave enough to get involved but just remember you're rolling the dice.
