There is a thread about a lowered cost replacement for the gas strut than Gobi's solution. Gobi's one is definitely nice, but the other one works.

I've heard our shocks on the 14' can handle the extra weight of the Gobi ladder and I've heard of people with 14's having to replace them as well. I'm going to replace them just to be safe.

Anyone else have input on this?

On really really cold days the struts on my 14 can't hold up the ladder, other than that they work fine.

Good to know .. like -30 degrees cold or 20 degrees "really really cold" (depending on where you're from).

Ill get the most expensive accessory then (sun roof add on), then pick up the upgraded struts and other accessories later.

Does anybody else keep checking this thread because they're so excited to get their belated self bought Christmas present they keep hoping to see their rack magically shipped already? I'm already looking at mounting kits for bikes, kayaks and tents that I don't even own yet.

Actually, being able to mount a roof tent onto the Gobi is one of the big selling point for me.....

Nah, just depending on how strong the rack is/need to be....

These gobi racks are regarded as some of the best and strongest rack you can get:

You understand that the lead time is 4-6 weeks, right? On the day you received it, just consider that it was shipped the day before..... there you have your prime shipping....

Nice! Change mine from the has springs to the stealth tie down system.
