GOBI Roof Rack *Group Buy* Winter 2015

Hey guys! Does anyone know how much is the space between the roof of the car and the rack on a 4th gen ? I'm just wondering if I'll be able to get the full mesh and still be able to tilt up my sunroof.

I have a 5th gen, but when I called Gobi and asked that exact question (though for a 5th gen), they said 3/4". The distance between the crest of the sunroof and the top of the roof on a 5th gen is dangerously close to 3/4", perhaps within a couple of hundredths of an inch.

Gobi's advice was that if you ever plan on venting the sunroof, don't get the solid mesh.

Edit: Or maybe it was 1 3/4". Whatever the case, I immediately went out and measured it and it was too close to call. Not worth the risk, at least in the case of a 5th gen.

just found this thread...I called Gobi today to see what turn around time is if I order a rack today is...waiting on a call back.

That's a good idea. So you have the full mesh without sunroof opening ? I really don't care if the mesh is there when I open the sunroof I just like it better as one whole piece as long as I can still tilt up but I guess with "spacers" it shouldn't be a problem.

All of these "custom", "made to order" parts have long lead time.... that's the way it is..... Shrockworks, Gobi, even RCI....

They are not cookie cutter, chinese parts.....

Quick question. I know the 40" Light Bar Ready option removes the front two supports, but does that compromise integrity/structure at all?

Also, I'm likely not going to do 1 full 40" bar, but rather a set of 6" or 10" spots in the middle with 6" or 10" ambers on the sides. Should I go with the 40" light bar ready option anyway for mounting flexibility?

Spoke to someone at Trail Duty before ordering. He said the front might only hold about 20-30 lbs with the front supports removing. They have brackets to attach a 40" later, otherwise you'd be fine with the smaller lights. I ordered it with the supports.

By front you mean just that front cross bar then right?

Yes, I have the full mesh with removable crossbars. Why gobi has not considered having taller brackets is puzzling.

That's a lot of work, and I didn't sign up to do that. You guys didn't pay me enough. Oh... I don't get paid to do this AT ALL!

How about if everyone who is willing par take, PM YOU... and you can do this in a post.... say, the next post....

I am pretty sure if you don't have any incentive for people, they are not willing to do that for you....

At this point, please try to not expect your rack 12+ weeks out from now....
