GOBI Roof Rack *Group Buy* Winter 2015

Held off on posting a "final" impression until I got everything installed and had a chance to take a three-night trip down to Death Valley. Installation of the rack was pretty smooth, though Gobi's instructions are average at best. It just seemed like the way everything was written and how the pictures were formatted on their install guides slowed me down more than anything. Thankfully I found the rack and ladder were easy enough to install just by winging it on my own with the help of 1/2 a brain and a six pack. I also sent a few emails with questions along with an additional order for awning brackets, all of which were answered within 24 hours by Paul & Alex, so A+ on customer service there.

And here are a few pictures from my recent trip. The awning was a real pleasure to have in 100° weather. So was being able to mount my stinking Trasharoo to the ladder the whole trip, though when camped somewhere I'd hang it off the side of the rack above one of the rear wheels.

I emailed Gobi for an update, customer service person emailed back saying she'd check into it but she thought the whole group but batch had shipped. I hadn't gotten any kinda of item shipped type notice? That was earlier this week, I'll give her an email Monday if I haven't heard anything back. I'm currently at 7 months. At this point I just want to make sure I get the rack I paid for, not even mad about the delay.

i called gobi today

i called gobi today to try to get group buy pricing and they told me that they aren't doing it anymore. i guess i'm late to the party. if anyone wants to sell me their 4th gen roof rack, please let me know =)
 
Yea considering I'm still waiting on mine from this last group buy, they definitely shouldn't be taking new group buys at this point.

How does the Trasharoo work out on the ladder?
Does it want to spill out everywhere when you open the lift gate?

I was considering getting one and mounting it on the ladder as well, but under lift gate is kind of my work space when in camp. So trying to figure if Trasharoo is good to have up there or not..

The whole setup has really worked out great for me and – along with a new sleeping/storage platform I built – completely changed the way I camp for the better.

When I'm setup at a spot what I do is remove the Trasharoo from the ladder and hang it with one strap off the side of the rack above the passenger wheel well. That way it's under the awning for protection from the sun or rain, and doesn't take up much space.

It's also burly enough that I've filled it with firewood and thrown it on the roof without any issues or tearing, though it is still pretty new. Also nice to have the garbage on the outside of the 4Runner now so I can pick up all the gnarly $hit that people dump in the middle of nowhere and not have to think twice about it.
 
Received my rack today. Long wait, yes. But Sandra at Gobi got it straightened out. She even threw a freebie rack toolbox in as a "sorry we took so long" gift. Stuff like this happens once in a while, luckily I didn't need the rack right away. Rack looks great, good welds and simple install this afternoon. Thanks for putting together the group buy! And while a bit slow on delivery, I now have an awesome rack:jump:

You have to post a picture of the infamous 7 month gobi rack! I love these racks and can't wait to actually order one. Just got my lift and 285s installed so it will be a while!

I like it. May mount a solar panel or two underneath the grating, be able to run the fridge indefinitely...
