Personally, I don't think there is much of a difference in wind noise with the front "rise or no rise" version.

I think the Gobi rack looks awesome "as-is". Why pay the extra for the "custom"?

Also, theoretically, "custom order" do not qualify for this GB, but I guess, for 1 or 2 case, they can choose to "make an exception". It can significantly increase your "wait time".

I think the ONLY logical customization (which is not considered a "custom order") is the 40" light bar ready/no 2 vertical front support vs with the 2 vertical support (more for either 4 lights, or 2 small ones on the side, and one longer one in the middle kind of light configuration).

Now, for the ladder, only the 4th gen has ladder options due to the fact that they have a few different spoilers. 5th gen do not have options for their ladders.

They've advertised their bars are compatible with Yakima and Thule products. I also had the same concern cuz I'm going to mount a rooftop box from time to time. I've seen photos of Yakima and Thule boxes on the Gobi as well as bike racks / mounts. Guess as long as you have a clamping system on the Yakima and it's adjustable forward / backward, it should work.

Edit: BTW, if I remember, when I called Gobi way back, I was told the fixed bars at 42" apart.

I'm able to fit my Yakima bike racks using the removal Gobi bars. However, I had to use the Yakima mighty mounts to attach them since there is little room under the bars to mount them securely.

I'm going to go with the fixed bars specifically because I don't think there's enough room between the removable bars and the mesh top to get my roof top box in. But what just came to mind is that if you're going with both removable bars, you can loosely secure the bike rack to the bars first, then mount the bars to the Gobi (assuming there's enough clearance from the bottom of the bike rack to the mesh). Sounds like a lot of work if I were to take them off and on on a regular basis.

If anyone in SoCal, especially those ordering for a 3rd or 4th gen, is willing to part with their awning brackets for a stealth rack, please PM me. I just received my ARB 2000 awning, and based on the size of the bolts that came with it I think I'm going to want to throw in another bracket juuuust in case.
