Gobi statement on Trailduty

What's the lead time on a gobi rack from Trail Duty? 2 months - 3 months? Same as if you ordered it direct I would imagine.

Instead of being PO'd at Gobi for attempting to deliver your product, I think you should be pissed at TrailDuty for charging your card before they shipped the product. Keeping your $1500 for 3 months then never delivering the rack is your real issue. That's not Gobi's fault.

Last I checked the credit card laws are in your favor.... one way or the other you will get the charge reversed. Either TrailDuty will refund it or the credit card company will eat it. They have to, it's the law......

You dont know even know half of the story. One, I am not worried about my money/claim. I know I will get it back. Two, I went through TD because they offered a killer Cyber Monday deal AND GOBI, who i called directly, couldn't match. In fact they told me to go through TD. Three, there is a legitimate reason why there is an issue with TD and GOBI (not place to say). I dont mean to be a dick but its not my problem, so why should i have to do the leg work? Would you? My money is parked at TD and GOBI should find a way around the issue and get it... I held up my end of the deal in all of this.....

I really want a ladder for my 5th gen., just tired of the gobi BS

I’m in the same boat. I actually ordered one a year ago and told Gobi I’d come pick it up (I live an hour away). When I got the call that my ladder was ready I told them I was training(Army) and could make it out the following week, was told it wasn’t a problem and they’d hold onto it; I called them before I was about to drive up and I was told they had seen my ladder waiting around so it was sold and I’d have to wait all over again.

I was actually about to order through Trailduty to avoid Gobi too

yikes seems like something happened over at TD's shop, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions will just wait for the story to unravel.

last year i had an aweful experience with trail duty, GOBI went above and beyond to fix TD mistake and took care of me. they did all the leg work with figuring out the issue and correcting it. However they didn’t have to recollect funds or anything, I assume that yourCC would need to do that. Gobi fast tracked my new rack and had it to me in less than a month. I would never recommend trail duty

My order (stealth rack and ladder) was literally ready to be shipped today BUT I got a call from an Alex. She told me that something happened to a someone at Trail Duty (TD) and Gobi would need to collect payment from me (eventhough Trail Duty already collected from me). Gobi only collects payment when the rack is ready to be shipped, fine. Since that something happened to that someone at TD, they cant collect payment shifting the payment responsibility to me, ehhh whatever. They want me to call my CC and file a claim which is going to take another couple of weeks to resolve. Are they really going to hold onto my rack for that long? At this point, I really dont know what to think. I feel bad for what happened at TD, but cant imagine he/she is the only person that handles the day-to-day. That money had to go somewhere? I am a little frustrated with Gobi because they asked me to do all the leg work when the issue is clearly with Trail Duty and them.

I am not about to fork over another $1,500 plus and HOPE my claim goes through. Right now, I am just waiting to see what my CC says, before I fork over money. Hopefully Gobi holds onto my rack.

Just out of curiosity, what date was your order placed? Just trying to get an idea on how much longer I'll be waiting on my rack.

guys, i've been waiting for my Gobi ladder since November of 2017.

Good luck with Gobi they have a track record of empty promises.

To be honest. I had a Gobi Rack and I ordered the ladder but I did not use it once. I never see a reason to climb all the way up on the rack. Maybe because Im taller? Not sure.

I sold the Gobi and bought a perfectly flat rack and I never looked back. A completely flat rack is so much more useful and you gain much more space up top than the Gobi.

Both flat racks and Gobi racks have their pros and cons. My personal experience with my Gobi rack has been great so far, but my purposes are much different than yours.

For starters, you have a rooftop tent and I do not. I built a removable platform in my 4runner and garage it as well, so there is no need for a RTT. If i were to get a RTT, I too would get a flat roof rack.

The main purpose of my roof rack is to mount my water and fuel jerry cans, wood, and Front Runner wolf pack boxes. The chicken wire makes it extremely ratchet strap friendly, and I especially like having a contained roofrack that helps to prevent items from slipping off. As for the ladder, I too have never used it to climb up and down, but I do use it to hold up my trasharoo, so it has a use for me.

For those that ordered through Trail Duty, it's unfortunate that whatever happened happened. I ordered my Gobi through a group buy with them a year or two ago, and everything went smoothly. Hope things work out for you guys.

I dont mean to beat a dead horse but want to reiterate that my opinions only reflect their (GOBI) customer service, or the lack of. GOBI racks are one of the top racks out there and the fact that you dont have to drill makes it that much more appealing. I personally cant comment on the utility aspect of it but I only hear GREAT things about it. The guys and gals rocking these GOBI racks have awesome, awesome builds. I'm envious.

Again, its is EXTREMELY unfortunate what happened to TD, but the financial contract/agreement with GOBI shouldn't affect me and GOBI shouldn't expect me to take care of it. If the roles were switched, I guarantee GOBI (along with most businesses) would say "not my problem." GOBI literally called me to say "Your rack is ready to go but you wont be getting the rack unless you pay for it." They cant return phone calls, but they can call you when it comes to shifting responsibilities.

Good luck to the rest of you caught in the same situation.

Why in god's name does anyone purchase Gobi products after reading about all the horseshit they pull?

I bought mine because I found two "horseshits"... One being wait times and two being the lawsuit against whitson for having a similar rack design...

I think both of these are non issues. I am patient enough to wait for this top notch rack..

gobI had no obligation to step in and fix the issue that i had with trailduty but they did.. and they even let me use the wrong rack until my new one arrived 1 month later.

You dont know even know half of the story.
There's no sense in lashing at me about it...

I only know what you have posted, sounds like more than half the story to me.

Let me see if I got it right, you found a screaming deal on a gobi rack through a 3rd party, they took your money, then fell through on the deal. You're now lashing out at everyone except the people who 1) took your money, 2) fell through on the deal?

For the life of me I can't figure out why you are pissed at Gobi. Gobi didn't sell you the rack. TD sold you the rack and dropped the ball, taking your money with them.

You are god damn lucky gobi offered to sell you the rack at the same price the 2nd time around. Sounds to me like that's excellent customer service to someone who isn't even one of their customers.

Or are you the type of person that goes to Burger King and then complains to McDonald's that you got shorted $1 in your change for a $5 bill that McDonald's never saw in the first place?

From a non-related third party, this appears to the problem between the buyer and the seller (distributor), NOT the manufacturer who fulfils the order from the distributor upon their payment. So, there is no reason to get mad at Gobi. You should be mad at TD who did not pay Gobi as they promised to you. (I heard rumor that this was an unintended/unexpected situation from TD tho)

I wish that ya’ll paid with a REAL credit card (not the fake Visa debit card) and within past 60 days to recoup your hard earned money thru CC company at least.

Easy there gangsta. No one is mad at TD. If you truly knew what happened to them, you would take that shoe out of your mouth. You are “god damn” lucky it’s not my place to say what happened to TD, otherwise you would feel really dumb. I actually like the GOBI rack and still on the fence about buying it. They just won’t call me back to discuss options. Like 80% of the people on this forum, I am frustrated with their customer service. And one more thing, no need to be hostile - we are on here to help each other. Sorry my post(s) angered you so much.

This makes me want to sell my Gobi rack (it's ok, not my favorite anymore) and use the cash to buy bitcoin.

Anyone want a used Gobi rack with off-brand rear lights and awning mounts?

I mean, if you're throwing it away I suppose I can take it to the scrap yard for you.

For whatever the reasons with TD and Gobi, that’s between them. I didn’t even mess with them when I ordered mine. Went straight to Gobi direct. Called them every day at the 12week mark. Got mine to my door In 14weeks. For all the Gobi haters out there, most of you hate because you don’t want to wait the lead time and/or are not proactive in dealing with them. Let’s be honest, they do have pretty crappy customer service, but their racks are one of the best IMHO. They look great, and very functional. Also no drilling. I’m sure this post will get me a bad rep again for “promoting bad business” and it’s probably from the same person who blocked me on FB :baby:

I received my Gobi rack about 2 1/2 weeks ago which I ordered through TD. Order was originally placed on 10/31... no issues here and received all the included accessories (rear hatch gas shocks, ladder, and sun roof insert).

I have no idea what you all are complaining about, just read all the people waiting YEARS to get their drabbits (Camel Back Metal gear) racks.

:snacker:

TrailDuty owner Dead...per Gobi rep.

My Gobi rack is near ready, then I get the call...

Gobi called me, like many of you, on Friday. I was told by Gobi that the owner of Trail Duty has died and all orders pending with Gobi are null and void unless we pay them directly. They instructed us to resolve our issue with Trail Duty or the credit card company, and that it's not Gobi's problem. If we want the rack we ordered (and paid for) through Trail Duty then we need to pay Gobi now or lose the order.
