Gobi statement on Trailduty

Anyone in the Washington or Oregon area Dick Hannah Toyota in Longview stocks them. When I bought mine last month they had 9 in inventory.

not to anyone in particular, but you gotta love the golbi fan boys.............

when someone says their product is the "bestest"...yeah, time to turn off my brain.

The same people who can't get gobi's balls deep enough down their throat are shitting all over a certain one-man operation over his TAT. The same one-man operation that states clearly on his website that TAT is delayed.

Shame that there are so many self-centered, closed-minded crybabies on this board, certain mods fit this bill as well

Nice! That's about 90 miles from me, but it's good to know for anyone who wants one.

Oh wait, perhaps I should mad at Gobi for selling these to someone who keeps them in stock?

If true, it is unfortunate that the owner of TD passed away.

I believe that Gobi does not want to deal with probate and possibly being a creditor to TD (who knows when Gobi would get paid and if Gobi would be paid in full). Thus, it is easier for Gobi to tell purchasers to make a dispute with credit card companies and let the banks deal with the headache....

It is unfortunate, but Gobi has/had a partnership with trailduty, not honoring their contracts is pretty crappy imo. The responsibility is on gobi to get their money. The customers have already paid, they shouldn’t have to pay again and hope they can get a refund.

Gobi is in the enviable position of easily selling every product they make, at a premium, plus customers that want the product badly enough to wait a very long time for delivery.

This has gone to their head, resulting in a poor CS attitude.

OTOH, buyers who are willing to pay a vendor up front to get a discount, set themselves up for just the sort of scenario being discussed. The only smart way to purchase something from a company with very long lead times is pay upon shipment.

Hard to blame Gobi in this instance though, the assets of the vendor may be at best tied up in probate for a long time - at worst? gone.

Maybe someone at Gobi will be smart enough to change the process. Regardless, I've read enough on this forum that I'd never buy from them.

My Gobi rack is near ready, then I get the call...

Gobi called me, like many of you, on Friday. I was told by Gobi that the owner of Trail Duty has died and all orders pending with Gobi are null and void unless we pay them directly. They instructed us to resolve our issue with Trail Duty or the credit card company, and that it's not Gobi's problem. If we want the rack we ordered (and paid for) through Trail Duty then we need to pay Gobi now or lose the order.

Interesting. Unless I'm mistaken, Phil Day owns Trail Duty and he was posting on social media only a few weeks ago.

Yikes. I ordered over 3 months ago (and am fine with the wait). Thank God I used my USAA card... I know they'll straighten it out! Damn man, my rack was just about to ship, too.

Condolences to the family. With an unexpected death - they have so much on their plate to worry about and deal with that the business will likely take a back seat for a few weeks. It sucks for customers, and is a good reminder to have a business continuity plan, but at the same time, what would ya'll do if your spouse died? Would your first thought be "let me check on those 4000 business emails?"

This doesn't sound good for some of us in the queue. I guess I just barely missed mine...rack was due to ship by the end of March...ugggh. The issue we might face is that we're over 60 days. AmEx has been good on this in the past for me, but I was just told they couldn't do anything. If anyone has suggestions that might work, let me know. Hopefully someone representing TD comes through soon. Otherwise I guess I have to look into small claims?

What a bummer. I ordered my rack from TD in December and paid with a visa gift card. I don't think I have an option to request a charge back. Not sure what to do moving forward. I emailed Gobi in response, I'll have to wait and see, but judging from what everyone here is saying, I guess I can expect to hear a "sorry, but not our problem" type of response.

The death of the owner is tragic and regardless of where our personal opinions fall on how it's being handled by both/either parties, it is a terrible thing for all involved. My condolences.

I do have one question.....why is Trail Duty still accepting orders for Gobi racks via their website...........?

I know they are having a heck of a Gobi sale, free ladder, free shipping, free replacement struts, free deflector. But somebody needs to shut that down, especially since they can't seem to figure out the current situation.

Gobi is a bunch of patent trolls and litigators. I bet they have more lawyers on staff than fabricators. So why am I not surprise that they are trying to take advantage of a situation like this. They sue guys making racks in garages at home and put small fabricators out of business for patent infringement on an overly broad patent. So leave it to the legal eagles at Gobi to put the screws to their own customers caught up in unfortunate circumstances.

Thats why I'm glad I cancelled my order with them a while back and went with a local fabricator who actually cares about their customers.

I feel bad for everyone caught up in this situation.
