going on a trip

I am going to Reno/Tahoe area in less than 3 weeks.

My 2003 4x4 SR5 currently has 78k miles. I just got new Yokohama Geolander tires few months ago.

Any maintenance or check up i should do before i take off?

I am planning on getting a new viper since the current one is almost done, any brand or recommendation for snowy weather?

You didn't mention what your mileage is, what maintenace has been done previously, how many miles the trip is, etc.

Assuming you maintain your Toyota, I'd say just be sure you have a relatively fresh oil change (such that you won't go too far over your normal oil change frequency by the time you return home), check and adjust the tire pressure and just enjoy the ride. It's not uncommon for me to decide today that I'm leaving tomorrow on a 1,000 mile one-way trip with nothing more than a tire pressure and oil level check. Oh, and windshield washer fluid check. :biggrin2:

oppz, lol, the trip is from The Bay to Reno, approximately 218 miles 1 way, the only maintenance i done for the car is oil change + filter for every 3k miles. nothing major yet.

did you mean wiper? or viper? if its wipers you need, try the bosch icon's. had them on my old car for 2 years and never had to replace them. a little expensive for wipers but they hold up great.

436 mile trip, nothing special for a short drive. Windshield washer fluid & wipers and it'll feel new!

Will you be going up I-80 or US 50. Either way, watch the traffic--and the panda cars--sometimes skiers get a little crazy, otherwise, follow the advice of the other posters. It's a trip I make about twice a month, even in the winter--in an Kia Sedona Van with 6 of us riding. Have a safe trip.

oh no, that snowy road.

just one question,

when i encounter snow roads, i will be putting on H4, does my transmission needs to be at 3 or 2? or it is fine at D

Do i ever need to press L4? what transmission should i use then?

never had experience with 4x4. i never took it to trip. haha.

H4 will be fine. Best to put in H4 when you leave so that you're prepared for bad road conditions whenever they show up. Should not need L4 since you're staying on road.
