Going on long trip, any recommendation for tune ups and check?

Hi Everybody,

In December, I'm driving from San Jose to Catalina island which the vehicle will be parked in the parking garage in San Pedro for a week while I'm taking a class on Catalina Island. Any recommendation on what I should check before going on a long trip and making sure I get there without interruption as well as going home? I just had the serpentine belt snap on Saturday and that was quickly repaired but what about the other parts of the vehicle. The vehicle has 168,000 miles on it and its a 2005 SR5.

Sounds like a pretty fun trip you got planned there, I am going on a 7600km trip this August and I have done oil, spark plugs, checked the rest of the fluids, new battery old one was slowly going. My 2005 has 103,000 miles on it and everything seems to be top notch.

What else do you guys recommend ?

V8 or V6? Make sure your spark plugs are fairly fresh, all of your lubricants are fresh, and a good battery wouldn't hurt either. If you have a V6, you have a timing chain which should be fine. V8's have belts which would need replacing. A new serpentine belt wouldn't hurt either engine as well. Check your filters, cabin air etc., tires, brakes. Catalina Island is really interesting, stopped there on a cruise a few years back. Enjoy your trip!

Oh, well thats very simple to do, I just replaced the Serpentine belt last Saturday and gonna change the starter, spark plugs, air filters and etc. I have a V6 and thats the reason why I got it was not to mess with the timing belt.

IMO Jester pretty much nailed it.... Check all your fluids, tire pressure (including spare) and make sure your scheduled maint is up to date... Would also recommend that you make sure your gas tank is full before leaving it a week to minimize the air space and minimize any possible tank corrosion.....
