Going to need a new tranny

Well, my runner has not been running so smooth. I took it to the shop to get some maintenance done but my real problem is the tranny. Now I really have enjoyed my runner but this new transmission is probably going to run me more than the overall cost of the rig. Any suggestions or tips?

Are you keeping the truck? Is it in good enough condition that you see yourself continuing to drive it for the foreseeable future? If so, drop the cash on a rebuild from a good shop and enjoy not worrying about the transmission for another 250,000 miles.

If not, then do whatever. Sell the truck, part it out, throw a junkyard transmission in there and pray, it's all good.

It's actually a simple process to remove and re-install your Transmission. Do that labor and bring it to a 4x4, or tranny shop and get it rebuilt. Shouldn't cost more than about a Grand-ish, depending on where you live. Even less around my parts of the world. Surely your 4runner is worth more than that!!!
I had an '86 Toyo pickup and I gave a local 4x4 shop my old transmission for the core charge and they already had a rebuilt one at the shop....cost less than $800. and a weekend of being under the truck, and drinking beer responsibly......
