Gold lettering vs. silver

Tapatalk's search feature on my phone sucks, so this has probably already been asked.

I saw a 3rd gen Limited the other day that looked EXAXCTLY like mine. The only exception was that it had gold lettering for the "Limited" "4Runner" and other badges, and mine are silver. Does gold vs. silver lettering signify anything? More bells and whistles?

Gold emblems was an "option" just as the black pearl emblems as well

No differences other then personal preference. Although the gold and black pearls when added from factory when the original owner bought the t4r new was a pretty expensive option.
If I remember correctly I remember seeing an original window sticker that with the emblems added as an option was a a few hundred dollars!

It was just an option. Gold emblems were popular options in the 90's but it died out.

I had gold lettering all over my SR5. It's gone bye bye now though

The gold emblems actually contained real gold on them.. Mine came with them and I still have the brochure in my glove compartment. I'll snap a picture later. However, it was merely just an option by itself. I didn't find out that they contained real gold until I sanded them all clean to paint them black. Should have just sold them all for black ones.

Interesting. So the trend went from putting gold on your emblems on the 90's, to putting gold on your teeth in the 2000's.

Ages back when I got my 3rd gen 01, SE Toyota (and I'm guessing other distributors) offered for the low low price of 500-1000 dollars to either pimp yo lettas in solid gold, yo, dawg, or to make them some kind of weird purply grey color they called "pearl."

The Limiteds often came with the gold and the Sports had the black pearl treatment.

My generic SR5 was a dealer trade and someone had blinged out the emblems (dealer didn't list it on the trade paperwork and had to eat the cost of the bling).

I promptly removed them, also not realizing they were gold, and threw them in the trash.

I plasti dipped my gold SR5 emblems black. So now I've got black on black.

Who, in their right mind, orders all options of a highlander edition and ops to skip on the e-locker for GOLD BADGES! I don't know if I will ever be able to get over this one. I will forever look at my gold badges and swear under my breath.
