"Gone too far" with your build?

Radiator or Sound system...hmmmm?

I'm currently trying to avoid hooking up a smartphone to the old factory stereo before replacing the radiator.

Not Aesthetic and does nothing for the ears but the sound coming from your mouth if the radiator fails....well...different story...Replace the radiator!

I don't think its to far unless you have a whole roll cage around the truck...

I've always wanted to weld spiky rusty metal parts on an exoskeleton... that would be awesome.

I don't generally think that one mod can cause you to be in the category of "going too far" with your build. I would never even criticize someone for lifting their truck only for the looks, to drive around the mall. It's your truck, nothing wrong with what you like...
I'm talking about things you have bought or installed that make you feel a little guilty. Like... rent will be late because I bought a new bumper and winch
Or, one of my headlights got cracked and doesn't turn on, but I'm still putting my last $100 towards sliders.
Or, I own a truck that is worth $1,000 and a set of wheel and tires worth $3,000.
Or, my truck has never even touched a piece of dirt, but it is the ultimate build that everyone wants when they see it (I'm jealous).
Something like that. No criticism intended

I know there is a playful aspect to this thread. But on a serious note: This article was posted on Expedition Portal. Same subject, and they had a very good view on what we want and need. I know after reading it I thought about my rig and looked back at what I have done and was like "I probably could have skipped that." There is a fine line for expo guys because you want to be tuff off road but at the same time, if something breaks on a long journey you want to be able to go to the parts store and get a part so you can get moving again...

My future plans, I have a few things to finish on mine, then I am going to go crazy with an offroad trailer. They are super purpose built and can sit in the garage when you are just pounding the pavement, but then when you hit the trail you get all the trimmings!

50 some LED lights
And to top it all off, green accents!
Not to mention 1000's of dollars and 1000's of hours for mods.

All this on a rig that only gets moderately offroaded once or twice a year and is a daily driver.

So yeah, I’ve probably gone too far. But I wouldn’t have it any other way!

No way man, those 35s make the 3rd gens look bada$$. I thought I was happy with my 285s until I saw the 4runners on 35s thread you started...great thread by the way b/c before I came across that thread, I would see people asking questions about fitting 35s or wanting to get 2"+ body lifts catching a little hate, so it was nice to see them all consolidated into one thread. Now I have the 35s along with a 2-3inch body lift as part of my future mods which is definitely not necessary or maybe even practical, but I guess having 285s and a 3" lift on my 4runner as a daily driver can be considered a bit much to some.

There is no such thing as too far, worth every minute and penny, it all pays off the more badass your car gets.

I'm a big Dave Ramsey fan and I think he would be fine with everything I have already done and plan to do to my 4Runner. Even with thousands of dollars in maintenance and mods, you're still far better off financially than going into debt over a newer vehicle.

My perspective is that my vehicle is paid for, as are all the accessories and mods. I plan to put another 100,000+ miles on it, so why not build it how I want for the purpose I want?

I totally agree. The vehicle is paid for. You might as well put $$$ into your existing vehicle rather than make large monthly payments on a new one!!

Just yesterday I saw a Subaru with tiny slant wheels (it's becoming a fad around here) with the stupidest exhaust ever. The tailpipe came out from the back of the trunk and went 90* straight up like a truck smokestack up to the height of the car. What made it worse was the job was done so poorly it wagged back and forth like a dog's tail.

Then just this morning I saw a Ford Mustang lifted with 32" tires and a spare on the roof rack he put on it. Had auxiliary lighting on the front bumper.

People spend thousands of dollars to do really stupid things with cars sometimes. I really don't get it.

I think our 4Runners look good with a lift. If I only drove on pavement, and had lots of extra money that I was trying to spend, I'd consider lifting a couple inches just for the looks
