Gonna Try It: OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner

I have decided to try out the OBDII Bluetooth Scanner for my vehicle. It only cost me $12 off of Amazon and I will buy the Torque Pro App for my Android at $4.99. I think this is a small price to pay to get more insight on how my rig is running and performing.

The unit is due here tomorrow and I will try and post some feedback on my experience with it.

Anyone else using a bluetooth OBDII scanner? If so, what are your experiences with it? I would appreciate any insight.

Yup. Ebay tongle and Torque. I haven't paid for Pro yet, haven't needed to. It works great.

FWIW: If you have connectivity issues with the cheap amazon dongle, return it and just get the BAFX one. I originally bought the "iSaddle" one off amazon and it was junk. Returned it and got the BAFX one like everyone recommends and it works flawlessly with torque pro. Just a heads up, the cheap ~10$ ones have a lot of defective units.

I guess I like the coolant temp, trans temp and gas mileage read-outs the best so far. Although it has only been a couple of days, I think I am loving this thing.

The mpg deal is not very accurate. The instant mpg is interesting to see but the avg says I should be getting close to 30+ mpg after several hundred miles of logging. I wish.

I would add a voltage chart to that. Helps let you know how your alternator and battery is holding up. At least, that's what I have.

I am running the ScanTool 427201 OBDLink LX Bluetooth (also found on Amazon) and the Torque app.

There's quite a few threads about the Bluetooth OBD2 readers. I have had one for 2 years. I keep it plugged in all the time. I only use it when a code pops up or I want to see engine/trans temps. The MPG reader isn't accurate. Works great otherwise.

No trans temp for 98 and older cars though. Sad day. I think we don't have a sensor or reading that the newer ones have or something like that.

BAFX works just fine. I'm using it with my iPhone.

You havent seen any issues using it with the Iphone?

I understand that the only reason it wont work is because the company doesn't have the certifications with Apple, whatever that means. Kinda tells me that it should work fine they just don't have all the legality figured out to be able to SAY it works.

Forgot to mention, my iPhone is jailbroken to get around all that Apple licensing nonsense. But yes, it works just fine with Engine Link.
