good buy..?? Pics!

after some time to think about things I would like to replace my runner with a different 4runner 2nd-3rd gen, one that already has higher mileage that is cheaper and won't lose as much value after putting another 80,000k on it, I found this one i really don't care about the body condition, its all good except the back passenger corner, which I'm not to concerned about, I'm going to try to look at it today and see the maintenance records on it. i know there aren't many pics but does this seem like a decent deal though, to me it does if most of the maintenance has been done up to date on it

You'll hate life going to a pre-99 from an 01.

Get a highway mileage 99-02 and you'd be set.

The extra few bucks from the difference (take your mods, of course!) you can use to maintain the other one and set off into happy land.

Or... just keep this one until it dies

I have owned them all from 1997 to 2002. There is no big difference in the older and newer models. The cup holder on the 1996-1998 is a pain in the rear. Other than that there are relative minor differences. My 98 Limited on demand 4WD works way better than any of the newer ones I have owned. ALso, the older models have the Japanese horn . THe automatic climate in the newer Limited models is nothing but problems.

ya i know it isn't the cleanest but its so hard they hold their value pretty well up here, most of them are like 7000+which i don't want to spend, if you get bored check out anchorage craiglist and let me know if you find something you think is better

ya that runner was a no go, to much wrong with it and not worth it the search continues, ya it would be nice to get something in so cal a lot more of a selection down there! fuel to drive up is about 750 if you averaged 20 mph which is defiantly due able not a bad idea, but would need a serious driver!

I still don't understand why you want to downgrade from a perfectly good 4Runner....

You say that you don't want to put miles on your nice 4Runner (and it seems pretty great) but you are willing to sell it (throw it away) and buy a cheaper, older 4Runner with a lot of highway miles already so that you don't feel bad depreciating it.

To me this just makes no sense. Perhaps I have it wrong.

If your current vehicle has X low miles and you have already spent a good amount of money modding it, you are better off just driving it up to 200,000 and losing whatever value but keeping with the same truck. i think in the long run this will be much cheaper than selling your 02 and driving a cheaper one to death. Especially when that 97 hits 200,000+ and experiences a TRANS failure or cracked-HEAD or other problems that will statistically appear between 200-250k.

I say just keep the current rig but I don't know about your finances. I almost sold my 4Runner once and backed out; it was the best decision I ever made.

I just got back from wasilla last month and would love to go back up. You find a runner I'll drive it up there for ya! Just hope troopers havent put out a warrant on me yet... Stupid resident fishing license :ybrick:
