Good deal on this '00?

Hey all, I'm thinking of purchasing this '00 SR5 4x4 5spd V6 for under $10K - good deal? It's got what I believe to be upgrade package #4 (16" wheels and 265 tires, power everything, leather wheel and shift knob but cloth seats, CD, cargo cover, keyless entry with back window remote, etc). It's also got the sunroof. Negatives are it's got 109,000 miles and while it does have 4x4 it does not have the rear locker. I test drove it and everything works perfect.

Tell me what you think, truck will be used for weekend home depot hauling, towing an old muscle car to shows occasionally, camping and offroading fun. I've got $10K budgeted and so far I think this is the best one I've been able to find locally for that price. Should I hold out for something with lower mileage? Here are some pics:

Good deal since '99s are still holding their value solidly even with just over 100k. My '99's at 119k and runs great. I bought mine when 3rd gens were still kinda high and two years ago I paid a bit under $14k for mine with 97k on it. The pluses were that it had new tires,Yakima basket,pre-wired for a good stereo and I had to have the scoop and the locker.

Damn locker! That's what kills me - I love just about everything about this truck except it doesn't have the damn locker. Most 4runners around here are 2WD, I've been searching for a couple weeks and have yet to find one with the locker

That sounds like a pretty good price. I recently paid 8800.00 for my 4runner 1999 limited 4x4 with 117,000 miles. I guess the only thing I dont have on it is the rear locker. I know I got my runner about 450 dollars back of loan value in the NADA book

That's definitely a good deal considering all the goodies that come std on the limited that year.

If i were you, i'd pick it up. the only downside is the locker option, which isn't really necissary anyways. if you do plan to do any 4wheeling though, find a different place to mount the 8 pin trailering harness ebcuase you will rip it off if you don't

can always to the elocker swap or arb air lockers.. or go cheap with a lockrite locker or aussie..

but lockers arent necessary inless you are going up some steep off camber inclines.

I would jump on that deal, especially considering it is a 5-speed. I shopped for a LONG time to find a 5-speed, I was not willing to settle for an automatic. I did really want a sunroof, but the fact that it was low mileage (55,000 miles), was a 5-speed and had the rear locker, I couldn't pass it up. I paid $17,000 one year ago today, $10k is a very good deal even without the locker. Heck, I put one in the rear of my 1994 pickup, you could do the same to your 4Runner...

Ken, yeah the 5 spd was great, I was suprised at how much fun I was having rowing the gears - I was expecting a rough shifting tranny but it was buttery smooth.

Okay, here's another one I test drove - priced just under $9K for a 118,000 mile '98 SR5 4x4 (no locker) auto tranny with leather seats and moonroof. Here's some pics, can anyone tell if this is original leather? From looking at the color charts on the toprunners site ( http://www.top4runners.com/ja/runhist31996.html ) it looks like you could only get tan interior with stellar blue in '99 and '02. For '98 it only lists the grey interior???

This truck has some nice extras like WAAG bars up front, on the tails and rear bumper, some PIAA lights, very nice sounding Sony audio system, remote start, wood trim, and 265/75-16 mud terrains. Plus the color looks killer in person, whereas the other one is very nice but a little plain Jane. This one's at one of those side of the road type used car lots, whereas the first one is a tradein at a Toyota dealer.

My vote goes to the '99. The 5-speed alone is reason enough for me, plus all of the updates the '99 has over the '98, it's lower mileage, bone-stock and looks to be in very good condition. I think 4Runners look best in silver or particularly in the thundercloud gray color available only the last year(s) of the third generation.
