good deal?

I'm picking up a 1987 4runner, 4cyl turbo, 5spd, 4wd and no mechanical issues. It's pretty much rust free, only one spot of rust on a bracket on the frame. Only body damage is a small ding in the rear tailgate.

It already has a lift and 33's, new intercooler and good interior.

$3500... I think it's a pretty good deal so I'm picking it up this weekend.

Any thoughts?

Well... here's the pic. The inter cooler is going to get removed and put a stock one back on and I'll have a custom bumper fitted.

Good idea...Truck looks nice how is it inside? Did they do any other performance mods to the engine?

U'mm, there was no stock intercooler on the 22RET, and since heat was that motor's worst enemy, you may want to research a little more. There are ways to add one that are an improvement on that one. But nice find, turbo 4 cyl 4WD's are getting harder to find.

The seller was telling me that there are other cars that use a side mount inter cooler, I may look into that... Maybe I'll look at some subaru options and use a top mount, but most likely not.

But nice find, turbo 4 cyl 4WD's are getting harder to find.

I searched every craigslist site within a 500 mile radius of ft campbell. He actually took $500 off the price because he was military too in desert storm. I guess you can say I got a military discount.

The inside actually looks really good, not too concerned though because it's getting all ripped out and rhino lined and new seats, possibly a full roll bar.

The engine is not stock for that model. The engine is a stock 4runner turbo but there was an engine swap. The 4runner that the turbo was originally in was rolled and totaled so that engine was put in. The piping for the turbo is not stock either which makes since now seeing as the turbos didn't come stock with an inter cooler.

So I picked up the 4runner today and it is a 23 y/o truck and has some issues but it has some potential! But the turbo is not stock it is a t3/t4 turbo and let's just say it has quite a bit of power... I have an 03 V8 and this little 4 banger will give my 03 a run for its money!

The turbo needs some tuning, it was getting about 13-15 mpg on the freeway and about 20 mpg in the city. Once the turbo kicks in it drinks gas, I think with some tuning and TLC it can be a beast!
