Good Estimate Value of my truck

Hi guys I'm an owner of a 2003 Sport Edition T4R with only 23,000 measly miles on it. Currently with the gas prices and my insurance costs I can no longer afford my runner :sobbing: It really bums me out to get rid of it as I absolutely love this truck. I have KKB private sale as well as trade in value but all these other trucks are in the 60K - 80K mileage range which is WAY more than my 23K. I think based off of the mileage I should be able to get a better price right? Any info on a suggested price I should shoot for would be helpful. I really don't want to have to trade it in becasue I know the dealership will rape me on the price.

(I am in so cal if that helps any)

Check the market on what they're selling for. Autotrader.com, cars.com, etc...

KBB.com should make adjustments for mileage, both positive and negative.

Eitherway, you're going to take a hit right now by joining the ranks of all the other SUV owners out there doing the same thing. Dealerships are FLOODED with SUV's these days. And you being in California, certainly doesn't help your cause, thanks to the highest gas prices in the nation for that special blend gasoline.

My suggestion, if possible, is instead of taking a financial hit (is it financed, paid off, will you be flipped over on your loan?), use that money and buy a cheapo' honda civic beater for like $2,500. Park the 4runner, cancel the insurance on it, and wait for things to recover. If you have a payment on it, see if you can refinance it to bring it down. Who knows, if you have like $10k or less left on the loan, a personal signature loan to pay it off could very well ease the payment pain, assuming you're credit is good.

Unfortunatly low mileage (and your's is very low) can only add so much to the value since up to date improvements and features of the newer trucks is the allure to somebody paying the payements.

Well looking on KBB and Autotrader the price didn't really change for me based on the low mileage compared to others that were much higher mileage. But I thought maybe selling it privately that would be an advantage to someone wanting to buy so I could get a little more for it.

That was my origional plan but I honestly can't afford to buy a "beater" and park the runner I don't have any money to do so. The one advantage I have is that the runner is paid for so I won't be upsidedown when selling or trading just taking a hit compared to what I paid for it obviously.

My main goal was to sell the runner and pay for something like a honda fit cash if I was able to get around 15K - 16K (or more which I doubt lol) for my car.

One thing you could do to trim down the monthly costs, since it's paid for, is drop collision coverage on the car and just keep liability. But, you're driving around with your fly wide open if you were to cause an accident. No coverage to repair your car, just the other persons.

Price will dictate your ability to sell it yourself. Private party sales sometimes work, sometimes don't. Some folks prefer to buy from a business, just in case something is wrong with the car, they can take it to them. I would not expect a premiem for selling it yourself these days.

Honestly man, you'd probably fetch around $12.5-$13k for it with what's going on, and that might take a while to sell. So much negative press about SUV's right now has the general public running from them. They're giving over $6,000+ price cuts on the Tacomas and such here in NC.
