Good friend meets it's end

Well, the engine finally went on this Classic. I was about 8 miles from home when suddenly it sounded like I was driving a Chopper motorcycle. I knew when I heard that sound it couldn't be good. I felt like calling down to engineering and having Scotty give me more power!!!! Well, I did make it home on I believe only a couple of cylinders.

I did some youtube searches related to the sound coming from the engine and found one that said he lost a piston. I do plan on tearing it apart to figure out what the damage is and how much it is gonna cost me mostly in time.

What's amazing it that the car still starts and I could probably drive it another 100,000 miles. I won't test that one out though. You can't kill a Classic TR4.

The Truck sits there in the cul-de-sac waiting for me to start... I'll post my progress. Any advice is a huge help thanks TR owners.

Well, I have turned a wrench a couple of times on the 3.0 but I am far from being in a position to give you any rebuild advice. One thing I will say is at 250,000 you should go for the full bottom and top end rebuild.

Now that it may only be running on 4 or 5 cylinders, I wouldnt doubt that the MPG improved and it has more power...

thats how well designed these 4runners really are !

Resurrected My Classic...

After thinking what I had was a blown head... I found that a spark plug had backed itself out. A couple of bucks later my truck is back on the road eating up more miles!!!!! What an incredibly great feeling.

Way to go! thats awesome... i wish all my engine problems were that simple lol. i once had 2 wires get litterally burned completely off from touching the EGR and i drove it from sand diego to my house in east phoenix on 4 cyl (what a champ) and when i got home i found the problem and did a comp check.. comp was good, alls i did was put in a set of new wires and she was running like a dream . like stated earlier.. 4runners (minus a select head gasket) are so beautifully enginered that even with it only running on 4 of 6 cly they still keep on chuggin
