Good or bad on gas?

Curious to know what others are getting for fuel economy with V6.

Best average I've gotten so far is 18.8 US miles per gallon, (12.5L/100km) or 22.6 imperial miles per gallon.

Most times before this, however, I was averaging 15L/100km, or 15.7 USmpg.

Yes, much comes down to driving style, but averages might be revealing.

I have about 1000 kms on mine...and I didn't reset it when I took delivery.

It shows 14.1L/100km (came down from 30.0 on day 1). About 80% city driving.
 
About 16.6 mpg @1200 miles. The remote start and corn fed fuel probably don't help much, would expect better numbers this summer, I hope.

Depends, if I drive and try to keep the 'ECO' light on I get a minimum of 17 mpg up to about 20 mpg, but if I drive my normal style I see it drop to 14ish. I do a lot of short stop and go driving so it really cuts down on my mpg's. I also noticed that the 4R is a lot better if you let it warm up for a couple minutes, it seems to like more fuel when cold. I can't complain, my old Durnago was 10mpg in town and max of 14mpg on the highway :) (@ just under 1k now)
 
i'm not happy averaging 16-17 miles per gallon here in NJ. I drive normal too, and my commute is 20 miles each way so I'm doing a lot of highway driving and 50% of that is cruise control. I hope this is the winter formula doing this and maybe it will get better come the spring/summer time. hopefully.
 
I am getting 17.6 with 2k miles, about %75 city, usually with about 500 pounds and most morning I will start it about 10 minutes before I leave. Not much eco mode accelerating
I did get much better on a short highway trip.
I am curious to see if mpg increases any (1-2) with a higher octane fuel

Me too.

I let it warm up twice a day for 20 mins. each time. I have about a 90 mile round trip. Back roads half the way, with a couple of lights...then 25 miles on the Palisades Parkway...60-70 mph. 3400 miles on the odo.

I'm going to try high test next tankful.
 
I'm just curious, are you guys using the computer's number on MPG or calculating it yourself?

If using the computer, is it more accurate then the 4th gen calculations?

I've read that there is no reason to let the car warm up. Just don't beat on it until the engine has reached normal operating temps.

ok..well I'm old...and spoiled....and extremely moody if I get in a cold car:cry2:

So, in order to maintain some sanity...I let that beotch warm up (and besides, I didn't get the heated seats, which is probably the ONLY thing I miss from the last 3 vehicles), but love the remote start!

On a more serious note..I had a 1991 Cheby 3500 w/ a 5.7.....and it had 275,000 original miles on the engine when I got rid of it 6 years ago...and I warmed it up every time it was cold (below35) and always plugged it if it got below 20. Needless to say it's still around town, my buddy says with the same engine!!:driving:
 
I just rolled over 1000 miles and I think I'm between 16.9 and 17.8 most of the time. TONS of hils where I live (Carroll County, MD) so it's hard not to suck gas.

However, tonight I had my E-Rated 265/70/17 DuraTracs put on. I'll keep you posted as to how they affect mileage...

...but damn they look badass! :biggrin2:

Every time I've verified it with pencil and paper, the display has been accurate to within one tenth of a gallon so I've stopped checking the mileage manually.
 
I'm using the computer. Too much margin for error the other way, and no reason to suspect the computer is off.

This is a strange thing, though: Now that I've crossed 5,000 kms, the mileage is getting better. I didn't think, and can't explain why, a green engine would have worse economy than one broken in, but that seems to be the case. Maybe it's the weather, but I couldn't best 14L/100km before, and now it's 12.5-13L/100km in town. Weird.

I just picked up my black on black SR5 yesterday. So far i only have 35 miles on it but the computer is giving me a rating 12.2 mpg. Kinda scary and hope it gets better :shrug:

my avg was very low too when i first picked it up. reset it and see where it goes.
 
Is the computer calculating the mileage differently then it did in the 4th Gen. I know many said the computers in the 4th gen was always off.

Yeah, that's normal, you haven't driven enough miles for it to get an accurate reading. Every new vehicle I've owed that had a mpg meter started out the same way... low.

My 4Runner had 65 "dealer" miles on it when I bought it. So I didn't get to see what it's starting mpg readout was.
