Good place for cell phone mounting

Newbie Here, and first 4Runner, a 2005 SR5 V8.

2 Quickies
Whats the best place to mount a cell phone, and what to use to avoid any permanent damage to the dash?

Suggestions? Comments? Thanks!

Suction mount, lower left corner of windshield. No damage to the dash board, holds up to 10 pounds.

Mine's located on a cell phone holder (sticky back style from pep boys Type R boy racer style) as you can see in this photo on the left of the console at the bottom. I feed the power thru a small space inbetween the pop-out tray and the console that feeds to the cig lighter from under the console - no exposed wires (well except for 3" where it plugs into the cell).

Its low and out of the way and close at hand. No need to take eyes of the road to unplug and replug - can do with one hand.

Its not fallen off in some pretty tough offroad situations.

Do you actually need a holder or just a place you can put your phone down while driving? If you just need something to put your phone down while driving.. check my ipod dock thread below.. I used some sticky pad to hold my cellphone and it works quite well..

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments.

Here in NY, (as well as CT and NJ) there are state laws requiring hands free while driving, so phones need to be mounted while driving. I'm just looking for a way to do so in the 4Runner, so the phone is easily accesible for use, without causing any permanent damage to the dash.

You could also use a bracket from bracketron. It mounts to a bolt in the glove box. I use it for my mp3 player and it works great. Doesnt scratch or damage the dash at all.

Well, the best and cheapest way to use your cell phone handsfree:

I have this holder on sale for $5 each. I have different sizes for different head circumferences. Wrap a measuring tape around your head and tell me the measurement. Get 'em while they last!!

Why does hands free = have to have phone mounted? Perhaps just get an ear bud on a string & set the phone in the cup holder? Bluetooth is totally cool as well but you will experience shortened battery life fwiw.

I but my PDA Phone in my glovebox where I have run the wire to my external antenna and have it talk to my CAR PC via bluetooth. Have the Mic. mounted above my driver sun visor and the call comes through the driver side speaker. Easy, hands free, and looks COMPLETELY stock. . i LOVE it.

My GX has bluetooth so everthing goes through my NAV system. I either keep the phone on my pocket or stick it in the cup holder. I wouldn't mount it if I were you. And, I don't see a drop in battery life.

Same here, either I leave my phone on my belt or it goes in the cupholder. Bluetooth works great, connects right away after I turn the key. Except with the Treo650, you can't send the entire phonebook over to the nav--a limitation of the Treo, not the nav.
