I just bought 3 quarts of Red Line MT90 for 5 speed gear box for $45. Got to use GL-4 grade to prevent damages to synchronizes.

Most modern GL5's are fine with synchros (won't eat away at them). That said, a GL4 is more likely to have better shifting characteristics (right friction for synchros) than most GL5's.

(I have had multiple cars that *require* a GL5 fluid in the manual transmission)
