Good price? Possible needle in the haystack find?

Morning all,

I joined this forum a week or so ago to start doing some research on 4th Gen 4runners.

I found one a friend is selling and would like some opinions. She's asking $25,000, but I might could get it a bit less. She's got $25k in mind b/c hat's what the local Toyota dealer offered her trade in on a new 5th gen.

It's an 07 Limited, 4wd, pretty much full loaded from what I can tell, and only has 47,000 miles on it.

She's taken excellent care of it, is the original owner, and has had all the normal maintenance done at Toyota. Always garaged, she washes it regularly, waxes it once or so a year. Has brand new Micheline Lattitude tires on it (not great, but they only have 1500 miles on them). Brakes are at 90% good. Also has the 3m protective film on the front of the hood, etc.

She lives 4 miles from her job, hence the low miles. But she has had it in 4wd a time or two each winter, so the possible stuck transfer case issue shouldn't be a problem.

No accidents, exterior has no dents or dings. Just two very smalls scuffs on the back that most people wouldn't ever see. Interior is mint, especially the back cargo and back seats. About the only use you see is the driver's seat, you can see some wear in the leather, and might be a scuff or two on the drivers side of the center console.

I'm located near Seattle, and these don't go very cheap, I've been looking. All I can find used are SR5's with high miles or V8's. Neither of which I want, I am looking for a v6 Sport or Limited.

Can anyone weigh in and give me some thoughts on this? Thanks a ton for any advice or thoughts!!!

That's way high, and if she's saying the dealer offered her $25k it's probably because they're making it all up on the price of the new 5th gen sale. Have your friend run a TrueCar price on the 5th gen and I bet she'll find she's getting hosed on the new T4R so they can offer her $25k on the older one.

I went on KBB and did trade in value on 2007 Limited 4x4 V6, 47K miles, excellent condition, tow, nav, sunroof and the max trade in is $20.5k. And frankly, you could bring a used car in showroom condition to a dealer and I doubt they rate it excellent.

Private party for the same selections is $22k. I'd offer $20k and go absolutely no higher than that $22k.

For further reference, the going rate for similar vehicles on Autotrader are $20-$22k from dealers.

The fact you are in the PNW alone makes the price more reasonable. She coukd sell it for close to 25k in the seattle market. i have seen similar low mileage 4runners sell for that price a few times over the last 6 months.
 
If you're going to spend $25k, have you looked at newer models with "average/normal" mileage? I understand the whole low mileage argument but I don't believe it should increase a car's value by that much...maybe 10% at most. But then again, I'm not familiar with the supply/demand for them in your market.
 
I paid a dealer $24500 for my 07 Limited WITH a V8, 46,700 miles, and still had 16 months of warranty two years ago (WOAH!!! It was TODAY two years ago!! :party:). I think the only thing it doesn't have is nav and rear camera. It has a few chips and a tiny ding, too, but I'd still say she is asking too much.
But like someone else said, it the PNW and finding a decent one there might make that price in the ballpark.
 
crack pipe....i bought an 08 Limited V8 with 45K miles, that had Nav, rear seat entertainement, toyota platinum warrenty (7 years/75,000 miles)...no dents or scratches, all maintanence at the dealer for $23G, from a dealer, out the door inlcuding all taxes, registration and fees. Unless your region says otherwise 20G is about the max IMO.
 
Ill agree with second post to some extent

BUT come on use the right site next time. no lender car dealer etc uses KBB anymore.

I tried to buy 4runner at high nada or kbb in portland. Dealers all laughed at me. All selling for thousands above high book.

Then you need to get out of your overpriced bubble. Hop a cheap flight to a normal market and save thousands. I flew to Florida to pick up a VW diesel one time because the market was way overheated in the northeast. A $200 plane ticket and $100 in fuel for $3000 saved. Winning.

When buying used, I am going to go over the vehicle in detail. Much harder when the vehicle is a thousand miles away. I was actually going to go that route until I found an 03 for a reasonable price that had all service records and no rust. The PNW is crazy. If you sell a 4runner, bring it up here for a lot of extra $$$.
 
i would also add...if you look outside of your market ask a t4r member to look at the truck before you buy. I am sure you can find a member that can help you out with a prepurchase inspection, or reccomend a shop that can help you out. Save yourself some coin and leave the PNW if prices are over inflated.

I know VW TDIs bring a pretty penny in Portland as well from the time I've spent on TDIClub.
 
some good points made already..(25k seems a bit high to me but im in NC)...i'd like to add that depending how much of an emotional purchase it is for the buyer (if you found the exact color/options/miles etc you been looking for ...) may make it worth a couple more G's....esp if its gonna be a long term purchase like many here are...that truck could easily go another 200,000 miles

of course it comes down to time n money- if you dont have time to travel and your friend wont come down much and you can afford it i say pull the trigger - sounds like an awesome 'runner that will give you many good yrs
 
Thanks a ton for the thoughts everyone. I had a feeling it might be a bit high, but all this info really helps. Guess I'll holdout and keep looking for a bit.
