Good shop for a pre-purchase inspection near San Diego?

I'm thinking about buying a 4Runner in that area and figured I'd come here to see if anyone had any shops they think well of that know these cars (4th Gen) for a PPI. Dealers are fine too if their service departments are well regarded. Car in question is just north of San Diego.

No one has ever trashed Jeff. I just personally hate the Truck Shop. I think they do shitty work, actually I know they do shitty work, so if I can help someone not go down that road, I will.

Sounds like you had a bad experience, could you elaborate a little more? I think trashing someone without letting people know the circumstances is not fair.

They rushed my clutch job on a Friday afternoon. The throw-out bearing they installed went bad 5 months later. They told me they replaced the rear main seal, but they didn't. It was still leaking when I picked it up.

Two other forum members experiences:
BrianSD_42 blew a headgasket and had The Truck Shop fix it and he still gets misfire codes to this day.

Warthog had a rear diff setup from them only to find out a few weeks later that they set up the diff incorrectly resulting in a noise to come from the diff until he replaced the gears, again, and had the diff setup from a professional.

What Conner is missing is that while I get a misfire occasionally it is just a code flash that only occurs at idle and then doesnt come back for weeks. There is no loss of power, it only happens for second, and the engine compression is good.

It showed up years after my heads were replaced. I think my issue is electrical related.

I'm sorry to hear that Conner had a bad experience. Contrary to what his post implies, James never does any of the work himself, although he seems to know everything about these trucks.

There are lots of shops out there. I look forward to hearing more about these other shops as well :)
