Do you have full-coverage insurance? Won't they pay for a replacement, particularly a genuine Toyota replacement? Unless your deductible is more than the replacement(s)... it might be a helpful option worth investigating.

You've got to be sh!tt!ng me!!!!

How in the world was someone under your truck for that long and not make enough noice to be noticed!!?? WTF is this world coming too! That really sucks man, hope you get it sorted out soon.

This is a normal thing thats happening more and more everywhere. Im talking about 2 minutes with a good sawzall. They target suv's and trucks, especially lifted ones as its easy to get too.

They can cut one out in less than a minute. I have had two stolen and my insurance company said since I did not pay for getting OEM parts they would only pay for aftermarket. I have since upgraded my insurance.

It's just crazy!!

Sounds like you've got it down to a science.. Wait,,,, Where were you this morning? JK...
After I read this post, I mentioned it to a brother of mine and he was shocked I'd not heard about how common it was. I live in a rural area and theft isn't common.

I've never heard of this. You guys get money for recycling them??

I'm in Canada so this is all news to me. We weren't even required to have cats until a few years ago in my province lol.

Yep. There's some precious metals in cats including platinum.

absolutely worst part is that you can`t beat the shid out of the scum without going to jail. very frustrating.:vader:how much does it pay for each cat? $20 ?

I saw a CL ad one time that made me so mad ... it had a pic of a 30' construction dumpster overflowing with recycled cats and had an exhaustive list of vehicle make, models, and years with prices paid for each type of cat ... so it was the perfect hit list for these thieves ....

STOPPPPP!!!!!! BEFORE YOU BUY A POS UNIVERSAL,

Search your local cl for some who is parting out a taco (no one is ever parting out runners) and buy the cat from them. Its Toyota and oem and all that.

When mine was stolen it cost me 80 bucks to get one off of some guys rolled and smashed tacoma crawler.

Go to autozone and get the muffler pipe fitters they should have your size (pipe to cat) then you can just have it welded in. Or use muffler tape but it's not recomended.

People have to permits to recycle these so that guy is the true middle man who is screwing all of us.

More like 1,000. There's also copper in them.

I don't think it's $1000 to scrap a cat... best I've heard is $160 or so. If scrap rates were $1000, toyota would charge $10,000 for replacements (buying one now is about $1000).

Either way, it sucks.

Are you saying you cut the just the CC off of the Taco piping and welded it into your 4Runner's piping?
