I thought of starting a thread about stories involving your 4runner, so lets hear em! The good, the bad and the funny!

Bought my 4runner W/ general tires on it. One week later we got snow! Had my rear end not slid out I would have rolled @ 10 MPH!
I now have Michelins!!

ok my 2nd gen cow story

So I am taking a leisurely drive through the hillsides just south of Eagle CO and heading towards Avon/Vail/Beaver Creek on some back road-whose name escapes me....

I come across a small herd of cows-maybe 10 total and they are literally standing in the middle of the road. NO problem I see them from a mile back and I figure by the time I get up there they will be gone.

I continue on up the road but nooooo the cows are still just chewing their cud or whatever it is that they do all day and blocking the entire road. I creep up slower and slower and sure enough most all of them head for the side of the road and out of my way.

NOT so with Mama Bessie I will call her, she just stood there and stared at me-"sizing me up" if you will.

I figured I could wait her out and even turned off the motor to just sit there and stare her down. But time passed and I was gettin hugry and I decided I needed to get on by and head for home....

So I give the horn the smallest of little "toots" and immediately she is PISSED off. Her nostrils are flaring and she is pawing the ground with one leg and acting like she will "charge" my truck!

I fire up the motor and ease out the clutch and point the truck right at her.

It is gonna be my 22RE versus a half ton of cow and now she is trotting at me and with me going maybe 2 mph at her we are both closing the gap quickly.

I start evasive manuevers, swerve left and she follows, swerve right and she follows...

She gets about 10 feet in front of me and lowers her head, I think what is this --a bull? Did I miscalculate here? But there are no horns...

I take a sudden stab at the gas and lunge left again and she head butts me in the passenger door as I go by her! I am going maybe 5 miles per hour slightly uphill and in 2 high spinning my wheels as it is a bit muddy out and in my mind I picture this gash in my passenger front door.

I stop down the road a mile or two and get out to look at the damage and it is a dimple-maybe the size of my hand and does not appear to have messed up the paint.

I go around the back side of the truck and head for the drivers side again and glance up to see "Bessie" trotting right up the road behind me-she is maybe 1000 feet back and moving quick and moooing loudly the entire time. She is still pissed off and looking to get even....

I pop it down into 4 high and burn mud getting out of there and look back in the rear view mirror and she is still following me at a trot.

Sure enough I go home and press on the panel a bit and it pops right up to where it should be.

Never had been head butted by a cow before-that was a first....

I won't go into much detail, but I'll have to say my most entertaining 4Runner story has to do with a national park parking lot at dark, my (then) girlfriend, Hershey's chocolate syrup and the police. I'll let you connect the dots if you want haha...

Nope - the consumption of syrup was involved, but it wasn't on the ice cream

man I have a good one but it could get me in some legit trouble if the wrong people saw it... man it's burning a hole in my pocket

ok a quick one...

Driving around with friends, and at an intersection, there is some SUV, pulled over, and a guy pushing it, with hazards on. I stop as a woman is screaming and waving me down. she is crying to me that she needs to get to a gas station, and her husband is some psycho, she wants to get away from him, while the husband(I guess) is screaming at her to get back in the car. I tell her that Ill just pull over to the side so I'm not blocking anyone, to meet me across the street. I get there, and while waiting for her as she is running towards my car, my buddy starts yelling to me to start gunning it. Without much thinking, being as high as I was, I step on it, and get the hell out of there.

Now I think about it as it could have been some dangerous situation, and I couldn't feel less sorry. While driving away, and for days, it was the funniest thing that ever happened.

Excuse the grammar mistakes.

Testin out my acceleration on a country road. 25....35....45....55...65...77.... blue and red...

In a 45 mph zone...

Lots of court dates....

Well... I never really had anything happen with me and my 4Runner... story worthy at least.

I guess I can recall one thing.

Well I was kinda being a jerk.. but here goes.

There's a road I'm sure most of the orange county people have heard of that runs through the canyons, Live Oak Canyon Road. It's a very twisty road and hundreds have crashed, many have died. For instance, there's a tree dubbed "Porsche Tree" because on two separate occasions, a Porsche crashed into that tree and the drivers died.

This took place about 9 PM. I had 4 other people in the car.

The speed limit is only 35 through the whole road. It's widely used by the off road community as the road leads to a popular canyon with a trail, Holy Jim's.

So while on my way through, I was going 35 - 40 miles per hour, and came up on a stupidly god awful Land Rover Freelander going maybe 20 miles per hour. The road is over 6 miles long and there was a ton of it left. Cars were piling up behind me wondering what the hell was holding up the road.

I learned an old technique of overtaking while racing (I used to be a little road racer with my friends... miss that) which involved shutting off your headlights and leaving the parking lights on while you follow them. Whenever we'd do that, the person in front would pull over or let us pass.

Well I did just that, only the driver really didn't take notice to it. So I flipped my lights on and off, kinda flashed them for a few seconds.

Nothing. I was sure as hell not crazy enough to go on-coming on this hell of a 2 lane road.

Finally, about 4 miles later, I think he got the clue as he pulled over and let the million of us pissed off folks pass by.

I was planning to head back to the city but randomly decided to make a pit stop at Holy Jim's.

The five of us in the car being way too much weight, there was not a way I was going to off road. We treaded lightly through the trail. Well, our "light tread" came to a quick stop when I got stuck behind a red Volkswagen Vanagon. Okay... as I still have no idea what the hell a van like that was doing out there... it was there, and going SLOW.

Just to add on top of that, the van was in the middle of the trail, not enough room to pass on either side. I didn't flash the lights or anything. I just kept behind him. A Tacoma pulled behind me, ready for some fun, now stuck as well.

So now this Vanagon was starting to swerve back and forth. He finally stuck to one side and I began to overtake him.

All of a sudden, the ****er cuts across and clogs the whole trail with his van and flings his door open.

I was already going at least 20 mph, and with all the weight and the loose dirt, I was not going to stop. I just barely squeezed past this guy's door and luckily didn't take it and the driver out with me.

So now I'm sketched out. Why is this driver trying to make me stop? Does he have a gun? WTF?!!!!!!!!!

So I pulled way ahead quick, and knowing Holy Jim's Canyon, theres a dead end. I knew he was going to catch me sometime. I shut my lights off and pulled a U-Turn. I flipped them back on and drove towards the van. Gladly he didn't notice it was the same vehicle, but I passed him. I noticed him in my rear view smacking the brakes, Tacoma still behind him.

So now I'm like ok... I'm just gonna ride this out. Easy.

Wrong.

The Land Rover piece of shit from before was now coming the opposite way, and tried to block me in also. I didn't care, I was not going to stop, I gunned it past the mother ****er and I would've taken him out with me.

I drove nearly 50 mph on that road back to the main road, where then, I just got the **** out the short way back to Santa Margarita Parkway.

I am in no way afraid of a bLand Rover or a Vanagon but you never know what they're packing out in the pitch black canyon where no one can hear you scream. I know if I squashed that guy I wouldn't have stopped.

Call me a jerk.

So that's my only real actual story I guess.

I was out wheeling/camping with the family, but with no other freinds/vehicles. I like to keep it in 4H as much as I can, and reserve 4L for when I really need it. Well, I got to a spot and went ahead and put on the rear locker (grey wire mod, so I can do that in 4H). Then I got to another spot and thought it was time to put it in 4L. This was last year, stock with worn out tires (no BFG AT's). I had real trouble getting up this spot that I had done before and really liked. The ground was a bit wet from recent melted snow (it was fall, and this was our last camping trip for the weekend). Anyway, it was hell getting up that spot, but made it, figured it was due to the wet ground and slick tires. Later down the trail I got to a big ugly patch of snow on a spot I had never been, so I figured it was time to turn around and find our camp spot. Well, I got stuck off the side of the trail while trying to turn around. After quite a bit of time trying to get out, come-along, jacking up and putting rocks under the tires, I finally thought I better try to work on the front of the rig. I asked my wife to watch the tires and tell me which one was slipping so I could get some rocks under it.

"Neither one is turning" was what she said. I knew right then what had happened...I never put it in 4L, but rather 2H, and because of the grey wire mod, I it went into 2H with the rear locked no problem.

I finally got out, and have never lived it down. It was a stupid mistake, that could have caused much worse problems. Live and learn. This year I have the BFG's and a winch, so I am ready if I make another dumb move like that...It's just a matter of time...

The crazy part is how much offroading I did in 2H with the locker and made it just fine. There was just the one spot that gave me trouble.

So how about that for a story of stupidity. We all laugh at it now, and the whole family still had lots of fun!

My buddies and i were gonna go shooting well we did and we hit this trail thats right next to a military base camp. alot of it is blocked off so there was only one way to go which was down in a ditch and through this huge mud pit which i missed most of it on the way in but when i tried to avoid it on the way back it slid me right in the middle of it. Mud was everywhere, coming in my doors, all over! and when i stopped (stupid i know) i realized i didn't even have my 4wheel in lol! so ya i stopped and than tried to go but wasn't moving. i thought for sure we were gonna be getting out and walking, well silly me had the 4lo and 4hi shifter in neutral and that is why i wasn't going anywere. So i just put her in 4lo turned the center locker on and she pulled right out no problem!! 4 car washes later i still have some mud (sweet spots) all over. what a day!! sure wish i had more pics while in the mud!!

I have a handfull of stories with my 4runner. But some just are just not good to tell because of underage-ness and all. But I got a few stories in the snow.

I was comming home from mountain high my local mountain and it was snowing. I was being stupud in 2wd and stopped at a stop sign. Then flored it and spun out. Down a paved hill. Up someones drive way and openerd their gate with my front bumper! Oops. So I peaced out. And surprisingly no damage.

And another time I was driving home on a closed road with about 1 foot. Maybe 2 feet of snow on it. I was in 4high. But was going about 50. And I did some crazy accidental 90 degree drift in the road but just focoused and corrected. Now I go a little slower. Ugh all the scary times of learing lessons! :)

Ohh yeah and I forgot. I had my transfer case self destruct about 250 miles from my home. Way up in a cayon in the white mountains. And had to drive home with horrible clunks and grinding noises the whole time. By the time I got home and pulled it out there were metal shaving in the oil and the case was even to messed up to use. That was the most stressful drive home I have ever had

Well i suppose i got a couple stories about driving in a construction site near my house in the snow. My cousin (ssssteveo103) and i drive over there when it snows a good amount. It's fun when your drifting and the snow is coming over the top of your hood! But i got other stories that i shouldn't tell on here, illegal stuff.
