Goodbye and THANK YOU!

Hi folks,

I have to say goodbye to my '01 4Runner. My wife was in a horrific accident last Saturday and its been totaled. I cannot be upset about this as my wife came away from this with just a broken hand and some bumps and bruises. Driving anything less and it could've been a very different outcome.

She t-boned a guy going somewhere between 30-40 MPH who had pulled an illegal turn directly in front of her (he was coming from the opposite direction and made a left turn into her path). She hit him so hard he rolled and came to rest on his roof. Thankfully he's okay too.

I'll miss you Silver Lady, but you served me well and you saved Sophia's life, and for that I'll forever be grateful to you.

If anyone has ever wondered about the safety of these incredible vehicles, don't. I still cannot believe she walked away from this. The engine is crushed, but not one inch of it moved backwards through the firewall. It simply imploded.

Wow, what a story. I am glad she is alright. It is good to know the engine didn't find it's way into the car. I hope she gets better soon and insurance pays off quickly.

I am not sure what you will get to replace it, but I guess you won't get a Smart Car?

Great to hear everyone came out unscaved (for the most part). With that said, do we see a 5th GEN in your future?!?!?!

I'm glad that you wife walked away from this crash with just a broken hand. Your 4Runner did what it was supposed to do - absorb the impact and protect the occupants. Good luck with a new vehicle and drive safely.

I'm not sure about the 5th GEN in the future but there is a 4th GEN in the picture! :wink2:

Glad you are ok but as people should see from those pics a brushguard isn't designed to guard much beyond some brush. I do like how the impact was contained to the front area and wonder how much better it would've fared with an ARB or like bumper.

I agree , those typical bush guards aren't worth anything if it comes to impact and probably do more damage than anything.
For the time I've spent on this forum and have seen pics of crashed Runners I'm certainly glad I drive one . They sure do fair well in accidents .

I'm glad your wife is OK, and I'm glad we all drive 4Runners, and that I trust my family to one of these rather than anything else. I heard a statistic, I forget where, that 4Runners (not sure which generation) have something like the third lowest fatality rate of all vehicles.

Yeah, if it saved the life of someone I cared for then I would get another. Now that I have one I can't imagine not having one. I always wanted one just never made the jump 'til 08.

BTW, it takes more than a 30-40mph crash to get the engine to come through the firewall. Years ago I was hit head-on by a drunk driver on a rural hiway. Both going 50ish. That didn't even make the engine come through. But it did make it sort of go under the cab of my f150. The ranger that hit me was torn in three pieces. And thankfully just minimal injuries to both parties.

Get back up on your feet and get another one. Your wife was blessed to have been in a 4Runner when it happened..Glad to know she's ok..4Runner 4ever!!

glad ur wife came out of it with minor injuries and of course sorry about ur silver lady
it seems like there have been quiet a few crashes reported lately, be careful of there

Could you imagine how much damage there'd be without the brush guard?

Hey man, I'm glad your wife is okay, the Runner held up pretty well to that hit.
I'm also glad it's not a sport hood cause that'd be a waste

Do you still have the truck in your posession? Wanna sell some stuff from it? I'm sure there's tons of people on here looking for parts...I really need the interior trim for the hatch...
