Ok, so I said goodbye to my lover a 1996 SR5. It was like giving my newborn daughter to the dealer.
I then went for the test drive. I was torn between the V8 sports and the limited. Big difference in $ right?
For all you third generations out there, don't even think that the Fourth generations are a new edition, they are a totally different car. Going from my 96' to the 05 was a difference of almost 100 horsepower. The handling, engine, feel, was like driving a new car.
In short I was blown away. Before the test drive I was very very doubtful I was going to buy. I thought instead I was going to invest a few more bucks into a new suspension etc. But then I fell for it and there was no turning back.
I was a hardcore manual addict. It took me two months to find a manual stick 4runner. So I was very doubtful I was going to buy a new 4runner since they were all automatic, but the 5speed automatic in the limited gives you, or at least makes you feel like you have a lot of control. For some reason, I don't miss the manual at all.
Perhaps I'm too busy playing around with the electronic seat adjustments or the sunroof or the onboard computer to worry about shifting gears.
In any case, I think this is it. I found the car of my dreams.
There was a black limited which I didn't buy. I'm glad I didn't, because now I realized that Galactic Grey is the most incredible color there is. It's unique, aggresive, classy and dirty friendly.
The engine is a monster and it's easy to feel that somebody spent a lot of time thinking about making a very driver friendly vehicle. Ergonomics are very good.
The only thing is that the roof feels lower, but then again, I now have a huge moonroof over my head, so then, I shouldn't complain.
