Yes, I know... Another tire thread. I already searched a bunch. Any thoughts or comparisons between the Goodyear Silent Armor and the Yokohama Geolandar AT-S? This would be for a completely stock '04 Sport 4x4 that currently has Geolandar HT-S (highway/street version) and the tire size would remain stock at 265/65-17. I'm looking to put something a bit beefier on there that would do better on something like a Death Valley trip and possibly trips up to the snow. Goodyear currently has an $80 rebate offer which makes them a little more attractive (thought still a little more than the Yokos). I'm thinking the Yokos look like they might handle better on pavement than the Silent Armors. Any thoughts are appreciated!!

I had the hts before my lift then went to ats. I went offroad once they did good and never had a problem with them i like them alot. Never had silent armors so cant speak for those.
How are the Silent Armors on the pavement?

I've been running Silent Armors (Pro Grade) for about a year now and they have been outstanding.
As far as noise goes, they are much quieter than expected for the tread pattern would have you expect. Other AT's I've had have been significantly louder.
Handling on the Pro Grades (stiffer side walls and deeper tread) was a little mushy at first (expected) but tightened right up and feel very secure now. (I have a pretty stiff suspension as well)
Traction has been exceptional all around. Mileage will drop some if you are switching from "all season radials"

On my 3rd gen I have been running the Yoko AT-S for about 4 years now. I have beat the daylights out of them and have not babied them in the rocks. I have not had one flat or sidewall puncture. They have been great in the snow on roads too. I did have them siped, like I do with every tire I buy. Siping makes a huge difference in the snow. I have traveled across the country a few times on this set. They ride great even at highway speeds.

I had the yokos on a 04 Tundra i used to own and they were much better and more quiet on the pavement. Ride improved significantly - this was coming from a set of BFGs. I have heard from numerous people that they are great in both sand and snow. My mpg improved just slightly, and this was probably because of the tread pattern. The yoko and the bfg run about the same diameter and weight for any given tire size and load rating.

Between those two I'd go with the Silent Armor hands down. They were my other choice when I decided to go with Cooper Discoverer AT3s. Got a deal I couldn't pass up on the Coopers.

I have been running Silent Armors for around 10k miles. They are excellent tires and I will buy them again for my 4Runner and our FJ when the time comes.
I do some moderate off roading, not a rock crawler per say but I live in the Rocky Mountain state so you cant avoid rocks.
On the hiway they handle great. We get all kinds of weather here and I have no worries with these tires, They are good on ice and in snow,
Check out the rating on Tire Rack. They are about the best rated tire for winter weather and off roading.
I suggest shopping at Discount Tire. They worked with me on the price.
I got a great deal because they were take offs. A guy bought them for his wrangler. Took them home and then brought them back the next day for something bigger.
Tires mounted balanced with full warranty $662 out the door.
I got a deal on my wheels at Discount as well $496
