GoPro Attachment like Tacoma?

So I have a quick question. I saw that the new Tacoma has this cool GoPro attachment that comes standard in the window. I was wondering if anyone knew if it is just a regular sticky peace that I can place on my window or if there is a way to properly retrofit it. I have part of my windshield tinted so I'm not sure if it would even work well, but that besides the point. I had one of the stick mounts on my bumper of my wrangler but it was so difficult to get off that I really don't want to go through that again.

Ive thought about this as well, frankly just use the low mount that comes with the GoPro. The only hangup is that the bottom of the adhesive pad is white I believe, which on the window would face out, which looks kinda jenky from outside the car. The Taco's mount is basically glued in place.

So it's a good question. Maybe there's a solution in removing the stock pad, and replacing it with some black 3M double stick foam tape.

I use my suction cup mount on the windshield and it works great. And during the week when I am not wheeling I just take it off and put it in the center console.

I'm always a fan of getting some of the car in the shot as well, either side mount the camera or on the roof

If you have a full on roof rack the RAM arms and clamp mounts are very versatile. Here's a suction cup RAM mount inside the cab:

I bought a cheap $10 suction cup mount for my phone that I used on the trail to record video and it turned out great. I thought it was going to vibrate and be very bouncy but it was very steady.

I use the atv rack mount and clamp it to my roof rack

Even though it was a little expensive a $50 I picked up a magnet mount from Sammy's camera. It holds on well even offroading. It is also rubber coated so it won't scratch your paint. It also has a quick release so you can turn it 90* and stick it on the door.

The smoothest shots I have gotten are from the roof.

I think I'm gonna try the suction cup idea. It would also be pretty cool to keep the GoPro outside the truck when driving up some trails.

Any update to this old thread? How are you externally mounting a GoPro other than by suction cup. I just don't trust suction cups @ speed.

Externally? I just use a handlebar clamp mount on the front bar of my full GOBI roof rack.

Internally I used the suction cup mount which was great. Now I just attached a permanent GoPro base mount to the inside of the windshield near the top middle.

You can find some aftermarket mounts that have the black/grey adhesive mounts if you’re opposed to suction cups. I have mine mounted on my tint so you can’t see it either way. Of course my entire windshield is tinted as well.

I think I want it mounted externally to include just a portion of the side of the vehicle in the frame for perspective. I took off my Thule rack when I realized it was killing my already low mpg, but a handlebar mount would def work on that. Maybe adhesive on the factory rack is the way to go.
