GoRhino Hitch Step issue....

Hi, new member here with a question......

I ordered a GoRhino Hitch Step from JC Whitney but it doesn't seem to fit exactly right. Even with the anti-rattle bracket the step still moves pretty easily from left to right. I thought I got a defective one so I emailed GoRhino about the problem and their response was "the hitch step doesn't fit a 4Runner". How can it not fit a 4Runner when it is advertised as fitting all 2" receivers?? The dealer told me that is what I have so I am a little frustrated at this point.... Is the hitch step supposed to have a little movement or should it be a tight fit??

It will never be a tight fit right out of the box. Some movement is expected.
If you feel it is excessive then get some thin gauge sheet metal stock, shim the side (custom fit the thickness), drill a hole in it for the hitch pin and viola! Another way is to wrap several layers of electrical tape around the step/male end and insert to squeeze it tight.

My cargo carrier wobbles. I have to balance the load, or it leans.

My step was moving too. So I did exact what Kmvreter suggest - a few layers of electric tape and no it solid as a rock. I've also add some grease to prevent rusting and for easy removing.

click the link on my signature, I "had" a GORHINO step. It fits but it wobbled a little. No biggie.

BTW, I no longer have it because I backup into one of the bike racks on a sidewalk. I was surprised how weak it was and will not purchase another one.

Hmm, simple bike rack damaged your hitch step I remember was hitting a few tries on the trails with it and it stands good, no dents or any other damage.

i hit my bar pretty good. luckily it did do damage to the bumper after it bent. it's done and am I am willing to send to highest bidder.

I would rather damage my $80 hitch step, than do damage to my rear bumper. If it ever saves me damage in this regard, I would consider it a worthy insurance investment. It's the only reason I bought one. In low speed instances like parking, it should do just fine.

Totally agree with you. In Toronto we called this step - "Bad Drivers Stop Sign". I was hit when was waiting for the signal on traffic light. No damage at all, but without a step I'd have at least painted my bumper. My friends 3rd Gen. was hit a couple of times without any damage. So I think it worth it.
