Got a 4Runner - and new questions

Finally got a 07 Limited V8 with nav, love it so far. HAve a few questions though

I have a faint clunk or jerk when stopping at a light or starting out from a traffic light - is that the clunk everyone speaks of?


The car has a minor ding and a large scratch, which at one place has a 2x rice grain size portion that I can see some rust on. What can I do aside from just going to a body shop? Atleast to avoid the scratch from getting worse?

Only just got it and am going on vacation, so wont even get to test it out this weekend's ice storm :rant:

Find a company that does paintless dent removal.They can work the dent out and touch upthe scratch for a lot less than a body shop will charge you.

Found a couple of paintless dent removers that are local. Will pay them a visit soon.

Had tested about 6 runners. And some thoroughly, this one's is the least prominent... probably because of the few miles on it.

If I don't get the lube done, is there potential damage that could occur? Or is the worst - the clunk just gets more prominent?

There is sometimes a "clunk" noticeable on most 4R's when you let off the brake after a mild to hard stop in addition to a different clunk from the driveline. The one from braking has to do with the rear suspension storing some energy from braking. When you release the brake, this energy releases and can almost be felt as if someone bumped into your rear end. It's a little unnerving until you get used to it. It occasionally happens on my current 4th gen and also did it on my 3rd gen. I've been told it's common and non-harmful.

I don't believe the clunk is harmful. Just have the driveshaft greased at the next oil change.

Not only the zerks on the shaft joints, but also the slip-yolk. That is where your noise is originating from.

You can go buy the tool itself to do it and have it forever at a fraction of that price....

What "tool" is needed to grease the driveshafts? What points need to be greased?
