Got a 99' with 106k miles!

Just got a 99' 2wd auto with 106k miles! Stoked! My first 4runner so i've been reading non stop on these forums.

Went with a 2wd because i'm in FL and don't need the 4wd and because I needed a vehicle.

So far i've decided on bug deflector, window tint, and clear corners. I've been looking to get started on some additional mods and wanted to get some opinions on the following..

1. She came with the upgraded 15" Enkei rims which i'm thinking of painting black..? Anyone seen or have any pictures of this? I've searched everywhere and can't find anything. For some reason, NOBODY has these rims..

2. The wheel well fenders are faded and i'm thinking of either removing them and the running boards, or leaving them on and re-painting black. The faded look is killing me :dammit: Thoughts? (probably won't do any lift or suspension).

What do you guys think?! I need help! I'm coming from the German world of BMW's. I appreciate every ones input!

It's silver/champagne color. Tires do look small.. need to go with some 31s or so...

I have those wheels! They look really good painted black. I don't have a picture of them clean, but I will see if I can get one. It really makes the vehicle look 100X better!

If you're set on keeping your fading fender flares, there's an alternative solution to painting that is said to be permanent. you can also replace your running boards with the same one except with the chrome side trim.

Never tried it myself but itsounds promising.

Here is a picture of mine w/ 15" painted black on 30x9. Honestly I can't stand it. Got a set of the 6spoke 16"s in the shed waiting on tires so If anybody close by wants to make an offer these... Tires are 25% > I'm B/t Pensacola/Mobile

I would keep your stock flares and just re-paint them. The molding on my other vehicle had faded and looked awful. I used a Semi-Flat black paint and it looked great. It was very tough to make out as rattle can. When painting skirt or molding it's all in the prep. If you tape it correctly and take your time it will look great. And if you don't. Then remove. Believe there will be some holes in your sheet metal? Or at the least damaged paint so I'd be hesitant to show them. Also it looks like removing that running board will leave your front skirt uneven? Reason I'm stuck with mine. I'd keep them too. And the original corners.

Alloy 16's either the 6spoke, or 5spoke can be had for $150-$250 a set + tires. 2.5" Suspension spacer lifts can be had for $140 which I'll have an extra NIB kit if interested. Good lookin car. I just bought a 99 2wd w/ 137k. In the process of replacing all the garbage and missing parts the last owner so kindly installed, damaged, & removed.

Thanks! I've used Armor All which looked ok for now but from past experience it fades quick. I've also used "black again" which I think is similar to what you posted.

I agree, I thought i'd like the rims painted black more but don't like it as much.

Yes, removing the running boards would leave the uneven look. Thinking of possibly removing boards and fenders completely depending on the holes in the fenders... If there's holes, probably wouldn't do it. And you're right, after 12 years, i'm sure the paint under the fenders is diff shade then rest of vehicle.

Do you remember the paint you used? I was going to remove, sand with like a 1000 grit or so, clean, and then paint.

I never thought of just spacers to give it a little more height. I think if I lift any I'll need the 16's as the 15's just look too small.

The fenders on my truck have actually worn through some of the paint. So atop from being shaded there will be places worn through and scratched. I believe the paint I used was Krylon. Any semi-flat black should be fine. Easy to find in Wal mart. Since most aerosols are Flat or Gloss the mixture looks turned out pretty nice. Since the fenders are somewhat textured cleaning them of dirt and oil is all that should be necessary. Spend more time taping then painting. Apply multiple light coats.

NIB means new in box. I've got a spacer lift for front and rear that I will be returning because I've got two. The truck pictured looks like it might be 3-4" or more in height.
