Got a refund from the Stealership !

I posted awhile back about my 1999 T4R, V6, 4X4, with 164K+ having a STALLING OUT issue. Brought it in at the local Toyota Service Department here in Vegas only to spend 2K on parts they replaced. The problem equated to two dry-rotted and cracked rubber hoses. I went back to them today and explained the scenario and demanded my money back.

Long story short, they took the new charcoal canister off and replaced my old ones. It was the best thing that happened to me although I did not get the whole amount I paid them. Driving home after getting $480 back, I noticed that the " tick/knock " was gone ! All the while, the new charcoal canister solenoid was making all those above sounds.

Conclusion : Those charcoal canister solenoid could really make the " ticking/knocking sounds. You may want to check it if you are experiencing the typical " Toyota Tick " as one of the forum topic would put it.

No full refund but at least I got some of my money back. I was just going to let it go but I thought it would be wrong of them to charge me for replacing parts that has nothing to do with my actual stalling issue. NO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WILL EVER TOUCH MY TOYOTA AGAIN FOR SERVICE OR REPAIR .

Pop open the champagne b/c that probably doesn't happen very often! Glad to know you at least got something back. :vader:

I never expected to get any money back. My whole point was to let them know that not all of their customers were idiots ! If you were there when I presented them the two cracked hoses ( one of which connects to the canister they replaced ), it was so obvious that they screwed up - no further explanation needed.

Hey, Mr. Olympia will be in Vegas this Friday and Saturday. Any 4Runner enthusiasts attending ?

what is the charcoal canister solenoid? where is it located... ive been noticing a ticking noise coming around the fan area..

Good for you! Damn those dealers. Stick it to them whenever you can

I decided to deal with them anyway. After all, they could care less, why should I care to hurt them by showing they screwed up big time ?! Thanks David for all your concerns - very much appreciated.

Dirk, I agree it is seldom for the Dealership to do refunds and I made them do so. Yes, I just popped 6 packs of Corona yesterday, hahaha ! Thanks to you too.

Cheers you guys !
