It's great knowing that no one has driven the vehicle. I'm always worried about test drivers who took the vehicle out and floored it to see what kind of power it could produce or how it felt at 85mph. That sort of thing is generally not recommended on a new engine!
Do you have an special break-in plans?
OMG, that's the same worry I had. I'm paranoid and anal as well. I prefer not to have a trade vehicle, since it'll have a considerable amount of miles and possibly have been driven hard by the dealers. I was worried too, as it was at port on 2/6 and both my rep and I were in Las Vegas last week. (We didn't plan our trips together, just a coincident.

) We got our Tacoma from the same dealer as well, and it was ordered. I was pleased that it only had 2 miles and thought that was hard to beat. My rep yesterday tells me when he briefly gone over some features, "It doesn't get any newer than this. It had zero miles on it and after getting a full tank of gas, it only has one." Normally, we don't test drive the one we've picked out just to keep the miles low, but the dealers usually insist on it. The dealer normally just grabs a similar car and we go for a spin. But for my Tacoma and 4Runner, we test driven them at a different dealer while shopping and never actually driven the one we bought.
I plan to keep the RPMs under 2-2.5k most of the time and maybe an occassional burst over 3k but under 3.5k periodically after 500 miles. I will be super easy on it for the first 1.5k, and after 2k, I'll drive it a bit harder. I won't be using cruise control and try to vary engine speeds as much as possible. I will change the oil at about 1000 to 1100 miles (in case Toyota uses a break-in agent, I know Honda does for sure--they don't recommend the first oil change until 5k), leaving the filter. At 3k, I will change both the oil and filter and continue doing so every 3k. It's a 90915-20004 filter, which is a Denso Japan made filter. According to various sites, the filtering element on this particular one is superior to the other Denso's at the dealer, 90915-YZZD3. I've seen and heard about other break-in methods, WOT within the first 20 miles, etc. etc. But
I believe my way will be the best for my truck/engine.
